According to new data from Culture Amp, women make up 51% of employees in the workforce, but that number drops to 39% at the vice president level and even further to only 30% at the C-suite level. That said, employers can make strides to change that, including investing in educational opportunities for their staff, making mentorship programs available, and more. Our tips for making flexibility your driving force this summer: 1. Talk to your employer - keep it professional, but remember that your boss is a person outside of work, too, and will likely appreciate your honesty and trust in them. 2. Talk to your kids - set expectations with your kids so they are aware of the summer routine. 3. Expect the unexpected - Set expectations and be ready for things to go awry. 🙃 4. Enlist help - Kids of different ages require varying levels of care, yet they will all have needs during the summer. Don’t be afraid to ask for and enlist help. 5. Make PTO work for you - If you have accrued PTO, now is the time to take it. Create your own #summerfridays, or consider making half-days a regular thing to ensure you're making the most of the season. 6. Take care of yourself, Mom! While this is listed last, it may be beneficial to consider it the unspoken foundational rule because you can’t take care of anyone or anything else unless you take care of yourself.
