Matthew Nielsen's work was selected for the 2023 AP Art and Design Digital Exhibit, which features exceptional artwork from AP students' final portfolios. Learn more about Matthew's work: http://spr.ly/6042WodCg From Matthew: "At the start of this project, I was confronted with a blank canvas, figuratively and literally. I needed a clear directive to realize my artistic direction. At this point, I went to my art teacher, Mr. Lancaster, who offered a key piece of advice that would redirect the course of my creative exploration. His short yet profound suggestion was to immerse myself in the city's streets and seek inspiration from the world surrounding me. As I wandered the town, my perception began to change, and it was during these excursions that I discovered my newfound muse: old, dilapidated, and abandoned buildings. These structures, once symbols of wreckage and decay, have now become the central focus of my project. This is why I want to stress the importance of going outside and exploring your environment to ignite your creative spark. The world around us is full of inspiration, waiting to be discovered. Each street you walk down, every park you visit, and every corner you turn offers an enormous amount of visual, sensory, and emotional stimuli." #APArt #APArtandDesign

Marceline Castrillon's work was selected for the 2023 AP Art and Design Digital Exhibit, which features exceptional artwork from AP students' final portfolios. Learn more about Marceline's work: http://spr.ly/6045m7acX From Marceline: ""For my sustained investigation, the body of work takes elements from the fairy tales of Swan Lake and the Ugly Duckling to tell my story. A celebration not only of the joy I’ve found in my life but the arduous journey it took to find it. My struggles to reconcile my Latinx heritage and my trans-identity. I meant for my work to be intimate and expansive, a connection between a melodic past and a chaotic future. I chose this topic and never wavered from it as both stories are ridden with transformation, utilizing beauty and romance for palatability." #APArt #APArtandDesign

Maggie Grugan's work was selected for the 2023 AP Art and Design Digital Exhibit, which features exceptional artwork from AP students' final portfolios. Learn more about Maggies' work: http://spr.ly/6047mjEcJ From Maggie: "'We’re Going Down' is portrayed in a World War II-era military comic book style. I sought to display the long-lasting effects of near-death trauma through a true story from my great-grandpa, Sidney. Who served in the Air Corps and military in the late 1930s and early 1940s. While I never knew my great-grandfather, I was intrigued by his experiences, searching through personal items from the war and his service record, which was detailed with photos and notes. It invoked questions that I chose to approach in my artwork. I thought about my great grandma Martha and the expectations put upon her during this time in my piece 'Do Your Part,' along with loss, scars, morals, and separation. However, “We’re Going Down” carried a lot of weight as it detailed the events of a true story." #APArt #APArtandDesign
