  • 📢 Training on Principles for Effective Programming to Prevent and Respond to Child Exploitation 🌟 TdH NL Ethiopia successfully conducted training on Principles for Effective Programming to prevent and respond to Child exploitation from 1st to 3rd October 2024.   The objective of training was to introduce the guiding principles to prevent and respond to child exploitation as per our Listen Up Strategy 2023-2030; and to enhance the participants understanding and implementation of the principles in our programming. A total of 15 individuals, including 6 partner staff and 9 TdH staff, actively participated in the training. The diverse group of participants brought valuable perspectives and experiences to the discussions and activities. Thanks to the three seasoned facilitators, part of the Gondar team last year: Girma Amentie, Abebe Mengstie and Muluken. The participants were happy to receive this important training. 📚The training covered important modules focused on addressing child exploitation and promoting inclusion. It began with an overview of the journey from CCIs and delved into the Listen Up Strategy. The module on child exploitation provided definitions and strategies for addressing diverse forms of exploitation while emphasizing inclusive approaches to protect all children. Understanding intersectionality and power dynamics was also highlighted, emphasizing how various social identities intersect and influence efforts to address child exploitation. The concept of positionality was introduced to encourage reflection on one's own position and power in society to better engage with and support vulnerable populations. Lastly, the training emphasized the significance of prioritizing children's voices and inclusion in decision-making processes, highlighting the importance of child participation and inclusion. The three-day training was a significant step towards reinforcing TdH NL's commitment to effective and inclusive programming. The insights and skills gained by the participants will contribute to more impactful interventions and a deeper understanding of the complex issues surrounding child exploitation.

  • 🎉 Action Against Child Labour Project Capacity Development Workshop in Busia County🎉 🌟Last week, from 23rd to 25th September 2024, the Action Against Child Labour (AACL) project team, led by Evans Munga PMP®, AACL Project Manager, held a three-day capacity development workshop with senior officials from the County Government of Busia. The workshop focused on the domestication of child labour laws and strengthening enforcement mechanisms to address child labour within the county. 🌟The main objectives of this training were to enhance participants’ understanding of child labour concepts, equip government agencies with knowledge of existing labour legal frameworks, and secure commitments to implement these laws effectively. By aligning local laws with national policies, the workshop aimed to develop a SMART action plan to strengthen child protection systems in Busia County. ✨The workshop successfully brought together officers from various county departments, including the County Attorney’s office, Gender and Social Services, Public Service, Agriculture and Fisheries. Participants gained a deeper understanding of their roles in the fight against child labour, and the County Government of Busia committed to developing a Security Enforcement Bill to tackle enforcement challenges.   ✨ The training also reinforced collaboration between county and national agencies like the Department of Children’s Services (DCS) and the Ministry of Labour and Social Protection (MOLSP), all focused on the elimination of child labour. 🟠This initiative reaffirms TdH NL’s ongoing efforts to create child-safe environments and accelerate the eradication of child labour in Kenya. Together with the Busia County Government, TdH NL remains committed to safeguarding children from exploitation.
