About us

Founded in 1920, the Tampa Museum of Art inspires the residents of the Tampa Bay region and others around the world by providing engaging exhibitions and innovative educational programs that emphasize ancient, modern, and contemporary art. The Museum houses one of the largest Greek and Roman antiquities collections in the southeastern United States. As one of the region’s largest museums devoted to the art of our time, the Museum’s permanent collection also embraces sculpture, photography, painting, new media, and more. New online programs add to the year-round studio art classes, lectures, and tours that provide children, teens, and adults with opportunities to discover new perspectives and learn different art-making techniques. Likewise, through unique community partnerships, the Museum offers outreach programs that provide art therapy interventions and meaningful modes of self-expression to vulnerable segments of the population. Located in the heart of downtown Tampa, next to the Curtis Hixon Waterfront Park and Tampa’s Riverwalk, the Tampa Museum of Art leads as both a cultural institution and a community museum dedicated to celebrating the diversity of its home city. General Hours The Tampa Museum of Art is open seven days a week, Monday – Sunday 10 am – 5 pm and Thursdays from 10 am – 8 pm.

Life imitates art. Artmaking and the act of looking at art anchor Joe Fig's multidisciplinary practice. In recent paintings, Fig explores how museum or gallery visitors look at art. Fig creates a sense of intimacy in the painting by working in a small-scale format. He focuses on specific artworks and through keen observation, records viewers' postures, gestures, and poses as a reflection of their visceral response to art. Everyone who views this wall will become a work of art themselves, captured in a moment of infinite reflection. Joe Fig is an artist working out of Sarasota and his work is on view now at the Tampa Museum of Art in "Skyway 2024: A Contemporary Collaboration."

Discover the joy of art for all at Tampa Museum of Art's Art on the House event every Thursday from 4-8 pm! With pay-as-you-will admission, there's something captivating for every visitor to explore and enjoy.⭐🎨💛 See you in the gallery! The Noble Collection that the Tampa Museum of Art acquired includes more than just ancient ceramic pottery. Among the pieces displayed here are also glass and faience items, such as the colorful juglet with zig-zag decoration and the blue-green oil flask impressed with a diamond-shaped pattern. Other items illustrate failures in the production process, such as the overfired bowls that fused together or large cup in the center where the clay did not glaze black as intended. There’s also a crumpled wine cup and a kiln tripod. Together these objects illustrate Jospeh Veach Noble’s fascination with production techniques and their failures. It's easy to overlook a piece of art when surrounded by many other artworks, especially when it's this small! 🧐 This red-figure squat oil flask (lekythos) decorated with a swan is one of those pieces. It's these types of pieces where you have to ask yourself, "Why is it so small? Did they really only put oil in this thing? And what's the significance of the swan?" Ask these questions! Engage with the art and start the conversation, maybe you'll get new insight. 😉🦢 Attica, Greece; Classical period, ca. 450-400 BCE Ceramic vessel Tampa Museum of Art, Joseph Veach Noble Collection, 1986.082
