Fun fact: Caramel apples were first created when Kraft Foods employee, Dan Walker, discovered the recipe while experimenting with leftover caramels from Halloween. He melted them down, added apples, and the rest was history. The first caramel apples were made by hand, until years later when Vito Raimondi made and patented the first caramel apple machine in 1956 - an easier and quicker way to dip apples into caramel. The machine included seven workstations, the last of which coats each caramel-coated apple in nuts, candies, or other toppings. Yum! What’s your go-to Fall flavor – caramel apple or pumpkin spice?

Sunday marks the first day of Fall! Changing leaves and cozy sweaters coming soon. Speaking of leaves, did you know that one of the first rakes to be issued a patent dates back to 1874 (U.S. Patent No. 148,660)? The rake was first made with a bamboo handle and metal teeth. Though he was technically born in Iowa, Edwin Elijah Perkins later moved to Nebraska, and he is one of the most famous inventors from our state after inventing Kool-Aid, still enjoyed by children everywhere. As back-to-school season kicks in, what better way to celebrate than with a nod to this timeless favorite? Whether you’re packing a lunch for your little one or reminiscing about your own school days, Kool-Aid stands as a sweet reminder of childhood joy and creativity.
