If you’re looking for an opportunity to get involved and make a difference in the lives of students, then this is the perfect opportunity for you!  Approximately 200 volunteers are needed to support the Stillwater Area High School Test Drive…Next Stop Reality® event on Nov. 12, 2024 sponsored by Royal Credit Union. Sign up here! https://bit.ly/4dYZxrR Test Drive is a hands-on experience in which students get to test drive their future and see if they have what it takes to make it on their own as a 25-year-old. The simulation begins with classroom pre-work, where students select a career and then research the education needed and salary that would come from that career. With an expected salary in hand, students come to the reality fair and make important decisions at 22 different stations in categories such as housing, utilities, transportation, childcare, insurance, and food. They visit each station to talk to volunteers who share information with them about the topic and guide them through the different options based on their lifestyle and budget. To further the simulation of real life, students will also be given random family assignments. In order for this event to be successful, we need approximately 200 volunteers to provide guidance and direction at each of these stations. Volunteers will have the ability to choose which station to be at as well as choose half or full-day shifts. No experience is required. Volunteers will receive training, free lunch and the opportunity to meet like-minded people who are committed to truly making a difference in the lives of youth. We’re excited about our partnership with Andersen Corporation, especially with the new custom workbenches they built for our Industrial Tech shop! Our old ones did not allow students to create precision products, and these benches are fantastic. Thank you to Andersen employees Eric Mayer, Mike Myer, Jeremy Wallraff and the crew that built these high quality butcher block tables. Big shout out to our Stillwater High School staff, Matt Howe and Brad Pike, who are working to get the shop looking like a professional work space. 

50 teachers connected with 40 employers for our second annual EXCITE Summer Teacher Externship and it was incredible! Check out the video created by former student, Owen Tracy, highlighting the 3 days of tours, networking and teacher planning to bring lessons learned to their students. The impact these teachers will have this year is exponential - hundreds of students they teach will gain perspectives and skills through new curriculum, projects, guest speakers and student tours in order to help them prepare for their future.
