While much of our work is based in the US, Sorg also focuses on projects across the world. In doing so, we recognize the importance of maintaining the local vernacular. By incorporating aspects of the location, culture, and people, Sorg can create a meaningful and beneficial structure that blends into the region’s architectural surroundings while still being unique. In India, Sorg has three major projects that all involve a mixed-use development complex. The Grand Arch in Gurgaon, India is a 300-acre township outside New Delhi and features more than 900 residential units in both high and mid-rise buildings. It was designed to help the housing crisis of the middle class due to explosive growth of urban population. Inspired by Mughal architecture and the cultural norms of the community, large rooms with increased privacy as well as puja rooms and central parts of the building. Skyon in Gurgaon, India was shortlisted at the World Architecture Festival, Future Projects: Residential, and is a large-scale, mixed-use, multifamily residential project. Skyon is a 22-acre residential development composed of five, 9- to 13-story buildings, and a 40-story tower, all organized around a community green space. The tower has a pinwheel layout and is the focal point of the complex and is derived from the Hindu symbol for good luck. The complex focuses on cultural aspects and aesthetics while still utilizing practicality. Another mixed-use development located off the sea in Mumbai, India is the Metroplex. Including nearly 1 million SF of commercial office space and 342 two to four bedroom units of residential housing, the Metroplex sits on approximately 10 acres. The main focus of this design was to allow every unit to have a view of the sea while maintaining the rules that each room must have natural ventilation. To do this, the Metroplex uses a design that stacks different blocks to reflect the geography of the site while satisfying the needs of the client. #architecture #design #community #travel #india

Between our home and office we pass by and through architecture that shapes our lives. Public spaces – libraries, recreation centers, museums, municipal buildings, and civic monuments – speak to who we are and how we see ourselves. At Sorg, we feel a sense of pride to engage with projects that have lasting usefulness and create a sense of shared memory and experience. Through imaginative decisions and innovative design approaches, we draw people in and endeavor to knit communities together. A design that focuses on public architecture is La Esfera in Miami, Florida. Created for a competition, La Esfera meaning The Sphere, embodies the city’s energetic feeling of constant movement, reflected by its light, air, and water. Inspired by the functionality of a Ferris Wheel, La Esfera transports passengers in glass gondolas above the city offering a breathtaking view. At night La Esfera is lit up by its own kinetic energy providing a sight to behold from pedestrians. The Crow Collection of Asian Art located in Dallas, Texas is a museum whose design is inspired by nature, paying tribute to thematic elements seen in Asian Art. The 35,000 SF facility is dedicated to Asian art, displaying an extensive jade collection and providing space for performance, such as Japanese opera. The building loosely imitates the petals of a Lotus Flower, curling and unfolding, allowing for rooms with separate functionality and contrasting the monolithic surroundings. #architecture #community #design #sorg
