This past week, our team celebrated the completion of the CommonSpirit St. Anthony North bed tower expansion, representing a significant milestone for the future of healthcare in the northern Colorado region. The 130,000-square-foot project included the development of a five-story bed tower, a new gateway to the hospital campus, an expanded new lobby, patient and visitor elevator core, site improvements and a new drop off canopy. Our design for the addition celebrates the expansive views of the mountains for as many patient rooms as possible and allows for multiple types of inpatient beds to support the hospital’s goal of expanding their ability to care for the community. Thank you to our partners at CommonSpirit Health Mountain Region, Boulder Associates, Mortenson, Martin/Martin, Inc, Cator, Ruma & Associates, S. A. Miro, Inc., ADAMS Management Services Corporation and MedDevelopment. #healthcaredesign #designabetterfuture

About us
Founded by architect Sheldon Smith in 1853, our “born on” date might suggest that we’re a traditional design and engineering firm, but we left old-fashioned mindsets behind decades ago. Today, SmithGroup is an award-winning, multi-national organization that employs research, data, advanced technologies and design thinking to help clients solve their greatest challenges. Working across 20 offices in the U.S. and China, our network of 1,400 experts is committed to excellence in strategy, design and delivery—giving rise to new and innovative processes and methodologies that are redefining the way we work. Our integrated practice offers depth in all disciplines serving the built and natural environment, including architecture, engineering (coastal, civil, structural, mechanical, electrical and plumbing), landscape architecture, urban design and environmental science. Our specialists—from artists and engineers, to nurses, workplace strategists and beyond—develop beautiful, sustainable, future-focused solutions for healthcare providers, science and technology organizations, higher education and cultural institutions, urban environments, diverse workplaces, mixed-use and waterfront developments, and parks and open spaces. Blending artistry, technology, planning, research and strategy, we partner with clients to up-end disruptors redefining their businesses and solve challenges impacting their worlds. Whether tasked to develop a business model, workflow processes, a campus master plan, a building, an energy model, or a strategic plan, our integrated team of experts relentlessly explores and refines until they arrive at a solution that realizes success at every scale of a project. Our ability to blend aesthetics with performance, sustainability, and resiliency to create a better tomorrow—for clients, employees, the community, the environment, and our collective future—has earned recognition from top-ranking institutions, publications and design authorities the world over.

PROJECT SPOTLIGHT: The City of Tolleson, Arizona embraces the belief that vibrant cities require modern, safe and welcoming facilities that support a broad range of community services and needs. Committed to further improving the quality of life for current and future residents, the city invested in a new civic center that celebrates the town’s caring community, rich history and promotes collaboration, transparency, equity, inclusion and inspiration. Fiscal responsibility, longevity, flexibility and community engagement were key considerations that helped guide all aspects of this resilient, ADA accessible, multi-purpose facility. This 47,900-square-foot complex (designed by SmithGroup) is a community destination featuring administrative offices; a flexible, multi-use council chamber and adjacent courtyard for indoor and outdoor public and private events; and a public library with a bookstore, public computers and meeting rooms, and a variety of age-appropriate spaces programmed for the varying needs of children, teens and adults. The facility also includes a new senior center and multi-purpose room that accommodates a range of daily activities and larger events such as luncheons, presentations, fiestas and more. This flex room opens onto a new public patio and greenspaces that further extend the functionality of the space. Unique to this facility, the Tolleson Civic Center also serves as the community’s repository for the historic events and memories depicted in the statues, plaques, landscaping, pathways and ever-changing murals proudly created by local artists. #TollesonCommunity #HaydonConstruction #civicengagement #cityhall #designabetterfuture
