  • Join SBC in voting Yes on Prop 4. This important bond will help prevent wildfire, provide clean drinking water, and protect California. With the election already underway (check the mailbox for your ballot!), now is the time to vote YES on Proposition 4 to prevent wildfires and protect California’s unique natural lands and water sources. For more than two years, SBC’s Government Affairs team and our partners have worked with the drafters of this ballot initiative to ensure that it delivers on the priorities and needs of the Sierra Nevada region. Prop 4 would make investments now to stave off disaster in the years ahead. It would front-load projects such as brush-clearing, forest restoration, and controlled burns that can help contain future wildfires before they explode into uncontrolled disasters. Prop 4 also contains funding to protect natural lands, build clean energy infrastructure, create parks & green space, and help small and medium farms conserve water and improve soil health. SBC has been an active member of the ARCCA: Alliance of Regional Collaboratives for Climate Adaptation since the development of our Sierra-wide climate collaborative, Sierra CAMP, and has benefitted greatly from ARCCA's influence in climate adaptation work at the state level. ARCCA represents leading collaborative networks from across California striving to build regional resilience to climate impacts by sharing best practices and resources, identifying strategies to overcome key barriers and challenges, and conducting joint campaigns and projects. ARCCA is undergoing a strategic visioning process to identify how we can continue to be impactful in today's climate adaptation environment. To understand ARCCA's value and potential to its members and network, ARCCA created a short, ten-minute survey to collect feedback from climate adaptation practitioners across the state. Help shape how this statewide effort can support climate action here in the Sierra by taking this survey before October 25! Survey Link:

  • Congrats to our partners at Sierra Commons for this great write up, and thanks for highlighting the Forest Entrepreneurship course. We can't wait to see what entrepreneurs do with the skills from this class, including this student highlighted in the write up: "Stephanie Williams took the Forest Entrepreneur Training course earlier this year. Recently the developer of a project she has been involved with for a decade, the Forest Biomass Business Center, was awarded $15.3 million from the Yuba Watershed Agency to construct a community-scale five-megawatt biomass-to-energy power plant. “Now that the plant will be built, I get to focus my time on the tools and resources afforded me through the Forest Entrepreneur Training to build out our business campus,” said Williams." Congrats to Stephanie and our friends at Sierra Commons!
