I had a BLAST at the Siebel Center for Design on the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign campus with the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity Broadband Team! I facilitated sessions on conflict resolution and encouraging change when you don’t have power or authority. This group was ENGAGED, self-reflective, and laid back in the best ways. Major milestone achieved at the 11th Annual Jump ARCHES Health Care Engineering Systems Symposium! Today, we proudly unveiled our latest prototype, developed this semester at Siebel Center for Design. In collaboration with the OSF Innovation team, we’ve created an interactive, arcade-style experience aimed at answering the question: *What is the exposome?* This hands-on prototype engages young people in exploring the complex interplay of physical, genetic, community, and environmental factors that shape their health and wellness. Our mission? To make health learning accessible and memorable, translating complex information into an experience that sticks. A huge thank you to everyone who has brought this project to life so far, including Scott Barrows, Kyle Formella, and Maddox Binder from OSF Innovation, Ruby Mendenhall and Joe Bradley from University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign and my talented SCD team members Neil Pearse, Siddharth P., and Aiden Liu. Huge shoutout to Jameel Bridgewater for sharing his creative journey and vision with us! Jameel hosted his exhibit, Have a Seat, Take a Seat, in SCD’s Moonlight Bay, where we had the chance to sit down with him and learn more about how he developed his artistic voice. Hearing his thoughts on being an artist in Champaign/Urbana was a powerful reminder of the potential this community holds. 🧡 💙 “Why couldn’t this (Champaign/Urbana) be like New York or LA? Why couldn't it be Chicago? We have resources here, the internet is huge, there’s a lot of space to create here. Be as present as you can, and don’t be afraid of being an artist that's making work in a place like this...Develop it (your work) here with yourself in smaller proximity, and then maybe take it somewhere else.” Your words and work have energized us, and we’re grateful for the insight and encouragement you offered to young creatives here. Never forget—you’re always welcome at SCD! 🎨✨
