SGH Architects is thrilled to announce that we have received a 2024 Honor Award from the American Institute of Architects Inland California (AIAIC) for our design of the J. Riley Distillery in Redlands, California! The J. Riley Distillery project exemplifies adaptive reuse, transforming the historic Redlands Auto Electric Building into a boutique whiskey distillery, complete with a new restaurant and an inviting outdoor event area. Situated in the Redlands Packing House District in Downtown Redlands, this project seamlessly integrates a modern distillery with a restaurant, sharing a communal outdoor courtyard and parking with the neighboring Escape Brewery. Our design harmoniously blends old and new structures, meeting floodplain requirements while complementing the historic setting. "It’s like cornhole, but with an added thrill of danger." For our quarterly team-building event, SGH Architects visited Axe Slayers Throw House in Redlands, just minutes from our Redlands office. Amidst flying axes, cold drinks, pizza, and a lot of laughter, we bonded and got to know each other better as a team. Who knew throwing axes could be so enjoyable? Apparently, everyone. Last week, Michael Stephens, Managing Partner at SGH Architects, was invited to present to the Rotary Club of Redlands. He recapped his experience in redeveloping Downtown Redlands' Packing House District and Transit Village, highlighting several new projects recently completed by SGH Architects. Michael discussed his approach to honoring Redlands' rich agrarian heritage while designing unique spaces that enhance access and connection for residents and visitors alike. Woo hoo! Congratulations to Saugus Union School District and Skyblue Mesa Elementary School!

Saugus Union School District celebrated the ribbon cutting for their brand-new Classroom and Flex Library Addition on the Skyblue Mesa Elementary School campus last week. As part of the District’s relocatable replacement program, SGH Architects designed a new 10,000 SF Library, Flex Science Classroom, and Standard Classroom Building that houses 6 rooms. The Library takes advantage of natural daylighting and opens into a shared collaboration area with the Science Classroom as well as access to outdoor learning spaces where students can read and experiment with science-related projects. The additional classrooms also occupy a shared “Collaboration Corridor” for learning opportunities where sliding glass doors allow for cross-collaboration and “sticky spaces” that encourage spontaneous learning. Congratulations to Saugus Union School District, Skyblue Mesa Elementary School staff and students, and the incredible Santa Clarita community on this monumental addition!
