For many of these children, the only meals they obtain are through their school’s breakfast or lunch programs. Homeless Engagement Lift Partnership is intervening to fill these hunger gaps with daily afternoon nutritional snack bags ( HelpSnackz ). 2024 State Policy Overview | SIIA Member Benefit Throughout the year, SIIA’s Government Relations team monitors and advocates for the self-insurance industry on a wide range of policy proposals advanced at the State level. This includes opposing efforts to erode ERISA’s preemption powers and advocating for policies beneficial to stop-loss insurance coverage and captive insurance. Most of this work is done between January and late Spring, when the majority of the State Legislatures around the country are in session. Now that most State Legislatures have adjourned for the year, SIIA wanted to provide you with a summary of the most relevant State legislative proposals that we tracked throughout 2024. In response to recent lawsuits filed against self-insured health plan sponsors claiming fiduciary mismanagement, SIIA’s Healthcare Price Transparency Committee has developed a Fiduciary Must Dos and Checklist to assist plan sponsors and their service providers in ensuring compliance with ERISA's fiduciary duties. Supreme Court Overturns Chevron Deference Doctrine The landmark 6-3 ruling ends a 40-year-old precedent, shaking up whether and how Federal regulations can be upheld when challenged in a court of law. All healthcare industry stakeholders - including self-insured plan sponsors and their service providers - are on high alert for the potential flood of legal challenges. From the IFRs implementing the surprise billing requirements to proposed Mental Health Parity regulations, every Federal rule now faces new scrutiny.
