📣 Press Release - SBS Water Quality Monitoring Study to Be Featured on PBS’s Changing Seas Series 📣 Collaboration and partnership is at the core of what we do. We are – Enabling the science that matters – working with scientists and researchers across the globe to provide instrumentation that produces defensible and accurate data for use in climate change research, environmental monitoring, and more. 🌊 We were honored to collaborate with Dr. Andrea Kealoha and her team at the University of Hawaii at Manoa Department of Oceanography to deploy a rapid water quality monitoring set-up in response to the devastating wildfire in Lahaina in August of 2023. We are grateful to have this study featured on the latest episode of Season 16 of PBS‘s, Changing Seas, a TV series that explores what’s going on with our oceans through the eyes of researchers and scientists. In the Maui Aloha ‘Āina: Mauka to Makai episode, our collaboration with Dr. Andrea Kealoha and her team is featured to depict the story of community resilience amidst loss from the wildfire. The episode will air live from 8:00 – 8:30pm ET today, Wednesday, June 26. More details on where to watch here: https://shorturl.at/HxudQ

We're grateful to be working with you, Miranda! Learn how Miranda Fowles, a third-year student at Oregon State University, is working on monitoring ocean acidification and hypoxia in the Yaquina Bay in Newport, Oregon. 🌊
MACO Intern Spotlight: Miranda Fowles "My name is Miranda Fowles, and I am a third-year student majoring in Fisheries, Wildlife and Conservation Sciences with a Spanish minor. In my free time I love camping, swimming in the ocean and hanging out with my friends! I also play lacrosse on the OSU women's club lacrosse team! My internship with MSI/MACO is the Cutting-edge Environmental Monitoring: Scientific Technology Development and Testing with Sea-bird Scientific. Over the summer, I will be focusing on a Climate Monitoring Station regarding testing and data analysis of the station. I am looking forward to working with oceanographic instruments and help with sensing of ocean acidification and hypoxia in Yaquina Bay. I am excited to learn more about the Climate Monitoring Station and how it can be used for ocean conservation. I hope to apply the knowledge I gain from this experience towards future research! My favorite cartoon character is Jerry from Tom and Jerry. My favorite "escape place" is when I am camping at Mt. Rainier. I love being surrounded by nature and sleeping outside! My favorite comfort food is a big burrito!" Welcome, Miranda! We were grateful to present at a recent Scripps Institution of Oceanography Technical Forum to showcase a case study we supported in partnership with the University of Hawaii at Manoa Department of Oceanography. 🌊 Watch Dr. Andrea Kealoha, Assistant Professor at UH, provide a summary of how she and her team used one of our HydroCAT-EP V2 multiparameter CTDs to understand the implications of the devastating Lahaina wildfire in August of 2023 on coastal water quality. Marialena Christopoulou, Customer Support Scientist, walks through the specifics of the HydroCAT-EP V2, and what made it the ideal instrument for this study. Thank you to all those in the Scripps Institution of Oceanography community that attended, and for the team at Scripps for hosting us. 🤝 Watch the virtual forum here 👇 https://lnkd.in/gNSsyFk2
