📰 #NEWS: Raytheon has delivered the first AN/TPY-2 missile defense radar for the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. This is the first AN/TPY-2 radar with a complete Gallium Nitride (GaN) populated array in the system. The GaN technology is a key enabler in allowing the AN/TPY-2 radar to support the hypersonic mission and provides up to two times the sensitivity to increase range as well as expand surveillance capacity. “The latest AN/TPY-2 radar is now in a different class. With the help of funding from both the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the U.S. government, Raytheon made more than 50 enhancements to the radar including the introduction of GaN technology,” said Paul Ferraro, President of Air & Space Defense Systems for Raytheon. “These upgrades will help Saudi Arabia to better defend itself from missile threats and will additionally benefit the entire fleet with enhanced sensing capability.” Details: https://rtxcorp.co/4esH3Qe

Congratulations to the USS Richard M. McCool Jr. (LPD 29) crew on the historic ship’s commissioning. ⚓ The Raytheon-built SPY-6 family of radars are projected to be deployed on 60+ U.S. Navy ships over the next 10 years to defend against air, surface, and ballistic threats, and is the most tested, most advanced radar technology in production today. Our employees played a key role in the ship’s commissioning journey including spending a week out at sea, testing various capabilities onboard the LPD 29, the second U.S. Navy ship to deploy SPY-6(V) radar with dozens more to come. This milestone marked a shift for SPY-6 from factory to integration into the U.S. Navy fleet.

USS Richard M. McCool Jr. (LPD 29) is the first ship to be equipped with the Raytheon-built SPY-6(V)2 radar, known for its air traffic control and advanced capabilities against cruise missiles, anti-surface and anti-ship threats, as well as jamming/clutter and electronic warfare. The LPD is named in honor of U.S. Navy Capt. Richard M. McCool, Jr., who was awarded the Medal of Honor in 1945 for the heroism he displayed in the Battle of Okinawa, is set to join the active fleet on Sept. 7, marked by a Commissioning Ceremony in Pensacola, Florida.
