Nearly twenty years after his father returned to Myanmar from Malaysia, Waira Min Kyaw embarked on the same journey in search of better opportunities. Waira, known to friends as William, never dreamed of going abroad unless it was to further his studies, but with the escalating political situation in his home country, it was time to make a choice. “When you migrate without the right information, you can find yourself in many vulnerable situations. This happens a lot to Burmese people because quality education isn’t easily available for everyone. If migrants had vocational skills, they could get better positions with better pay to support their families,” shares William. At Ria, we believe success comes from strong relationships built on open communication and continued dialogue. To that end, we recently traveled to Somalia, one of our newest markets, to reinforce and deepen ties with our partners in the region, SomBank, IBS Bank, Asal Express and Premier Bank. Over the course of five days, our employees engaged directly with our partners’ management teams to determine how, together, we could connect more Somali families and communities with their loved ones abroad. Gaining further insight into the country’s financial landscape, members of our Business Development Team also met with Somalia’s regulatory bodies, including Central Bank Of Somalia and the Somalia - Financial Reporting Center (FRC) , and participated in the Somali Diaspora Investment Forum. Last month the Ria Africa team visited an ENDA Jeunesse Action center in Dakar, Senegal, alongside our partner Save the Children International, to get a better understanding of the challenges Senegalese children face daily. After a warm reception from the children, ENDA and Save the Children gave detailed presentations of the center's objectives and the obstacles kids face to the Ria team, who also got a tour of the facilities. They then took part in painting, beading and a 'problem tree' activity with the children to help address sensitive issues that affect them. The valuable insights from these activities will go towards developing, consolidating and implementing an action plan that advances child protection and creates a safe and protective environment. Finally, the children highlighted the dangers of social media by putting on a play that revealed the risks and harmful consequences associated with their use. Speaking on behalf of Ria, Arame Sarr Mbaye expressed her gratitude for the privilege of sharing a warm moment with the children, as well as getting a better understanding of the support Save the Children provides to kids in Senegal to face the challenges they come across every day. #riamoneytransfer #csr #senegal

Last week, our Bank Deposit Product Owner, Ousmane Ba, E-MBA participated in a special panel discussion that acknowledged the positive impact money transfers have had in Senegal ahead of International Day of Family Remittances. Hosted by the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), the talks centered around digital remittances and their power to reach rural communities and boost financial inclusion. In his remarks, Ousmane highlighted the important role technology has played in providing our customers with an improved offering. “The digitalization of sending and receiving services has led to the emergence of innovative business models that leverage technology to improve the customer experience, thus providing both convenience and proximity. This has removed several difficulties that customers and beneficiaries have had in the past, particularly in relation to the accessibility of services.” Participation in industry forums is just one way that Ria drives positive change in our sector. With Euro 2024 and Copa América kicking off this month, Ria is also tapping into the football fever. Ria is proudly sponsoring two editions of the Mundialido football tournament taking place in Italy and Spain, an event that promotes integration of people from around the world. "For the first time this year, Ria Italy and Spain are proud sponsors of the tournaments," said Lorenzo Squillace, Ria Italy Marketing Manager.
