The search for common standards - by me in today's Law Society Gazette https://lnkd.in/eaUDhxHy Does the legal sector need #genAI benchmarks? A controversial Stanford Law School study tested the accuracy of #legal research tools. Ashurst did its own testing, and found #genAI saved time, and that 'quality' of output was a subjective concept. There are calls for establishing common standards, but does legal really need these, and if it does for how long, as the latest products are already addressing these concerns by improving their own transparency and accountability? Harvey now demonstrates exactly what it does; Orbital Witness offers accuracy insurance, and today's #legalAI news (not in my article) highlights Paxton AI's transparency. 'Quality' of genAI output depends on the use case and can generally be improved by the right prompts. Hence the current focus on prompt engineering, but as Ethan Mollick's book 'Co-Intelligence' suggests, this may prove to be a temporary phase. As CEO and co-founder Shawn Curran explains, Jylo (read my article to find the origin of that name) offers a pick 'n' mix of LLMs, prompts and chatbots, which can be combined to meet your needs - i.e. prompt as product. Finally, #genAI's time saving capability makes it more attractive to #inhouse legal teams. Relativity's recent survey revealed some interesting figures, discussed at #RelativityFest in London, along with questions around benchmarks and regulations - thank you David Horrigan and Mia McGee for inviting me, and Dr Victoria McCloud, Stephanie Wilkins and other panellists for sharing interesing perspectives from around the world on the technology that is transforming legal service delivery. It will be interesting to see how its significant time savings will play out in firms and corporate legal teams. #lawtech #legaltech #genAI #ediscovery #legalAI #AI #law #litigation
