A new partnership with area non-profit organizations and school districts is helping to create a healing environment for Reid OB/GYN patients and their families. The practice is enhancing its space as an adolescent-friendly environment by displaying 20 pieces of art created by Wayne County youth, ages 10 and over. The artwork is receiving positive feedback as it serves as a vehicle for a conversation between patients and providers. The Artwork Project is in partnership with Reid Health, Richmond Art Museum (RAM), the Boys & Girls Clubs of Wayne County, Richmond Community Schools, Centerville-Abington School District, and Seton Catholic Schools. As part of National Nursing Care Assistants Week, meet one of our Nursing Care Assistants (NCAs) who help to make Reid Health's high-quality patient care outstanding. Virginia W. is an NCA with Reid Health Hospice. Her co-workers, patients, and their families share the impact she makes with the care she provides. “Virginia is such a blessing to us”, “she made me feel so comfortable, she is a down-home, sweet lady and took her time,” and “with my wife, they talk like old friends who have known each other forever". As National Nursing Care Assistants Week celebrations end, Reid Health continues to recognize the ongoing contributions and efforts of our NCAs, Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs), and Student Nurse Technicians (SNTs). Thank you, Virginia, and all our nursing care assistants!

Plants need soil, sun, and water to grow. Reid Health’s Athletic Trainers are taking this concept and applying it toward creating a thriving environment for their team to grow professionally. By way of plants, the team is nurturing and cultivating support for each other while developing an ongoing understanding of their own needs to flourish. Wednesday the Athletic Trainers met to create planters as a reminder that without the right soil, sun, and water, plants won’t flourish. Next month, the team will plant succulents to water and care for to serve as a reminder to check in with team members and to communicate their needs to thrive and grow. Paul S. Rhoads, MD, was Reid’s Medical Education Department's founding director and helped to organize the hospice program and the Wayne County adult clinic for the indigent. The award acknowledges Reid's values, humanitarianism in medicine, and honors special medical staff members. Reid Health celebrates Juneteenth as a federal holiday in commemoration of the end of slavery. Reid's mission includes the celebration of the unique backgrounds, cultures, and differences of our team members, those in our care, and the communities we serve. While Reid Health observes this holiday, our facilities are open. Juneteenth originated from the Civil War and the issuance of the Emancipation Proclamation on Jan. 1, 1863, freeing all enslaved people in Confederate-controlled states. Nearly three years later, the Union Army regained control of seceded states, informing enslaved people of the proclamation, their freedom, and rights to equality. Juneteenth was first observed as a holiday by Texas in 1980 as Emancipation Day before gaining national recognition and more widely known as Juneteenth. The U.S. established the federal holiday on June 17, 2021.

Happy Father's Day! Fatherhood has many benefits for men and their families, including for their physical and mental health. As we celebrate Father’s Day during Men’s Health Awareness Month, we’re focused on the special needs of men and boys as well as how important it is for them to be proactive and prioritize their health. Today, as we honor fathers and father figures, we support all those men who are making efforts to be present for themselves and their health, just as they have for others.

Reid Health is celebrating Nursing Assistants Week. Nursing assistants are an integral part of our care team. Nurse Care Assistants, Certified Nursing Assistants, and Student Nurse Technicians contribute to the well-being of our patients and their families while providing support for medical staff in provider offices, inpatient and outpatient services, clinics, and the hospital. We appreciate the compassion, dedication, and hard work of our NCAs, CNAs, and SNTs.
