  • Over 500 disaster responders in Florida and Georgia are standing by, ready to respond as communities brace for Hurricane Helene’s impact tonight. 💪🏽 Ahead of the storm making landfall, our disaster teams helped set up shelters and prepositioned trailers with relief items. They also prepared nearly 45,000 snacks and ready-to-eat meals to distribute in affected areas once it is safe to do so.

  • For the third time in just over a year, the American Red Cross is rapidly mobilizing volunteers and relief supplies to respond as another major hurricane bears down on communities in the Florida Panhandle. As Helene moves closer to the U.S., the Red Cross has assigned some 360 trained disaster workers (almost a dozen from Massachusetts), stocked truckloads of supplies and is ready to open dozens of shelters to help people in need. Right now, Florida communities are preparing for potentially life-threatening impacts. The Red Cross urgently needs the support of the public to plan for and respond to disasters. You can help by making a financial donation or an appointment to give blood or platelets by visiting redcross.org or calling 1-800-RED CROSS (800-733-2767). We can't do this alone.

  • "I grew up in a border community so a lot of the humanitarian crises that the Red Cross was responding to was a local crisis for me. I saw the Red Cross in the front lines helping immigrants and asylum seekers. I was interested in helping out, so I reached out to my local chapter and was taken on as a youth volunteer.” Rodrigo Estrada first joined the Red Cross when he was a sophomore in high school. He says he gets his heart of service from his grandmother, who never turned away a neighbor in need. "What we do at the Red Cross is provide life-saving services and look out for people in our community so for me, being a Red Cross volunteer was a natural extension of my grandmother’s legacy.”
