📍Block 216 Portland's iconic new 35-story tower located in the central business district is now fully complete. The building houses the Ritz Carlton, Portland's first luxury five-star property, as well as retail and office spaces, and underground parking. RDH provided full Design Assist enclosure consulting services from early schematic design through construction. Our team developed solutions for transition detailing, complex curtain wall designs, and moisture management in the swimming pool area. As integral partners, our depth and breadth of expertise and efficient coordination ensured that this large, high-profile project could become a reality. Architect: GBD Architects General Contractor: Howard S. Wright Prow House (James Road House): Situated on the Oregon Coast, Prow House is a 5,000 sf private residence features an expansive glass façade arched over a rugged cliff, built with both sustainable and durable materials to withstand the marine environment. The design makes smart use of minimal space, with the garage on the top level of the home. As building enclosure consultants, our Seattle and Portland teams performed design assist and construction field review for the project. Our scope covered extensive waterproofing of the below-grade retaining wall that runs the length of the home. This six-storey mass timber passive house residential building in Hamilton, ON is the first for the industrial port city. The mission-driven project redefines what's possible in #affordablehousing and brings into sharp focus how design can impact tenant quality, comfort, safety, and dignity. Check out this drone video by Element5, our innovative mass timber manufacturing partner, with our very own David Stanton and Ben Brown, M.B.Sc., CPHD performing #waterpenetration #testing on the windows. Shoutout to all our RDH superstars bringing their #enclosure expertise and a #climate-response lens to the sustainability strategy Cameron Laidlaw Ben Brown, M.B.Sc., CPHD Rehanna Devraj-Kizuk Lucas Nahrgang, PE Thank you to our clients and all the collaborators! 🎉 Starting this week with a very important announcement: Dave Ricketts—one of three founders and the “R” in RDH— is officially retiring! Congratulations on this incredible milestone, Dave. RDH would not be what it is today without you. You continue to inspire us, and we're so honored to be here for this moment. Dave's influence, presence, and impact are evident everywhere: through our client work, the thought leadership we publish, and our reputation for technical excellence. A few years ago, we honored Dave by naming a scholarship fund after him. Consistent with his grounded and humble way of doing everything, he surprised us by insisting his name be left off the title. Today, the RDH Scholarship is a growing annual offering that supports students in reaching their full potential and helps fund their educational endeavors. Head to our new blog post to see what friends and colleagues of Dave had to say about him—link in stories and highlights. We wish you the very best, Dave!🎆 #rdhbuildingscience #happyretirement #nextchapter #retirementcelebration

Climate resilience advocate and Passive House Specialist, Monte Paulsen, passed away on June 22, 2024. Monte worked with RDH from 2016 to 2023 and was instrumental in establishing our position as leaders in the Passive House space. Monte was passionate about addressing climate change in the built environment, lighting up all who knew him with his infectious spirit. He led the industry through education, sharing generously with the building community and in particular with the next generation through his energetic teaching and mentorship. Monte played a key role in leading many large and complex projects to achieve the stringent Passive House certification, paving the way for a new standard of energy and carbon performance in buildings in British Columbia and beyond. Monte Paulsen will be dearly missed by his friends and colleagues at RDH. We extend our condolences and deepest sympathies to his family, and all those who knew him.

The redesigned structural glass facades for The Museum of Anthropology at The University of British Columbia preserves the original architectural character while enhancing seismic performance. RDH Principals Felix Weber and Brian Hubbs played a crucial role in bringing this project to life. Congrats to the whole project team! - Architect: Nick Milkovich Construction Manager: Heatherbrae Builders Structural Engineer: EQUILIBRIUM.
Had a great time presenting on the re-imagined structural glass facades for UBC’s Museum of Anthropology (MOA) at Facades+ in Vancouver together with Nick Milkovich and Brian Hubbs this week, and visiting the site the next day! The Great Hall truly is a stunning space (photos from my phone just don’t do it justice)!

Congrats on reaching the topping-out stage at the Robert Day Sciences Center at Claremont McKenna College! As the Structural Engineer for the façade systems, we're proud to have contributed to this innovative project designed by BIG - Bjarke Ingels Group. This endeavor presented numerous design challenges, pushing our engineering expertise to new heights. Our team supported triangular glass and steel truss web and chord Glass Fiber Reinforced Concrete covers using a unitized curtain wall approach with minimal joints, ensuring structural integrity in a highly seismic region. We are incredibly grateful for the collaboration and dedication of our partners, Kawneer Company, Inc. and Aragon Construction . Stay tuned for more updates as we continue to push the boundaries of structural engineering and contribute to the creation of iconic buildings like this one! #StructuralEngineering #FacadeDesign #RDH #ClaremontMcKennaCollege #BjarkeIngelsGroup #SeismicDesign #Innovation #Architecture
