Jill Sottanella, Supply Chain Data Analyst at Quaker Houghton’s headquarters, shares why it’s so important for her to be an ally of the company’s veterans: “I am an ally member of our Veteran CRG because I have several family members and close friends who are veterans. In my immediate family, my father was U.S. Army National Guard, my brother was U.S. Navy, and my fiancé is U.S. Army (retired) with more than two decades of service. As an ally member, I want to provide support to our QH veterans for their needs and interests, especially those that are currently serving or have family that plan to serve in the future. Additionally, I want to help our local communities better support veterans directly or through specific events. I feel any contribution and acknowledgement we can provide to QH veterans and those in the community is a direct expression of our respect and solidarity, which promotes a very positive impact for all towards mental, emotional, and physical wellbeing. Our veterans deserve this! Being part of our Veteran CRG, I have had numerous opportunities to hear other veteran and ally members talk about their experience. It has empowered and inspired me to extend my contributions further for our veterans. It has also further deepened my respect and admiration to those that have dedicated part of their lives to support and defend our country.”

Charlie Wyrick, Fluidcare Site Manager in Kings Mountain, N.C., talks about how his military experience shaped his approach to building community and fostering teamwork at Quaker Houghton and how being a member of the Veteran Colleague Resource Group (CRG) is helping him support his veteran colleagues: “I served in the Marines as an Amphibious Assault Vehicle Crew Chief. During that time, I learned leadership skills and team-building skills, which have shaped my approach at Quaker Houghton. These skills benefit both our customers and the team [in Kings Mountain]. When we operate as a team, we support one another toward a common goal. We also have more opportunity to share our collective expertise and experience with customers, and we can work together to better explain the solutions we can offer to address the challenges they may be facing. Our teamwork delivers greater value and more impactful results for our customers. As a member of the Veteran CRG, it’s important to me to be a liaison for new veteran colleagues, connecting them with any company or military resources they need to succeed. There is a sense of trust among veterans and a willingness among all of us to learn new ideas and processes.”

In honor of #VeteransDay, we are spotlighting our Veteran Colleague Resource Group (CRG) and its members. The Veteran CRG, one of our five CRGs, is dedicated to honoring and serving the veteran community within Quaker Houghton. It aims to build strong connections among veterans, create a supportive network, attract and retain new veteran talent, give back to communities through local initiatives and events, and raise awareness about the unique skills veterans bring to the workplace. We value our veterans – today and every day – for their hard work, commitment, leadership, and discipline that makes all of us and our organization stronger, and we are committed to empowering them in their careers and communities.
