BREAKING: We just filed a class action lawsuit in South Carolina on behalf of a thirteen-year-old trans student who is being denied his right to use school restrooms consistent with his gender identity. Last summer, South Carolina became the latest state in a nationwide effort to openly flout federal law by requiring state public schools to exclude transgender students from using restrooms that correspond to their gender identities – or lose state funding. As a result, our client, referred to as “John Doe,” was suspended, followed, and harassed for using the boys’ restroom. Eventually, his parents withdrew him from school and enrolled him in an online program. “I will not allow school officials or lawmakers to dehumanize my child because of their own ignorance,” said John Doe’s father. “All students deserve to feel safe and supported in school, including my son.” Trans students are not political pawns, and South Carolina is not above the law. Chase Glenn, executive director of Alliance for Full Acceptance (AFFA), another plaintiff in the lawsuit, said it best: states that continue to target trans youth should take note. If you pass these illegal laws, you will get sued. Read the press release here: https://lnkd.in/eT6eN9FF

Lt. Col. Susan Parisi, a 30-year military vet, was scammed by Renewal by Andersen’s "zero money down, zero interest" offer—only to be locked into a high-interest loan for home windows that she never agreed to. When the company tried to bury the issue in fine print, she fought back with a class action lawsuit against Renewal and GreenSky, their lending company that the CFPB has called ‘fraudulent’ and ‘deceptive.’ Her case could help countless homeowners hold these companies accountable.

For years, Charles and Grant Adler played a crucial role in Gruma Corporation's distribution system, delivering tortillas to stores in New Jersey. But after questioning unfair pay and their rights, Gruma retaliated by terminating their agreement, claiming they were "independent contractors." When the Adlers sued Gruma for unpaid wages, the company tried to push their case into arbitration instead of allowing them their day in court. Public Justice is proud to represent the Adlers as they take their fight to the Third Circuit. Every single battle we win against forced arbitration helps all workers. What a delight to witness my Public Justice predecessor Paul Bland introduce my Board President Janet Varnell as the 2024 Vern Countryman Award winner at this year’s National Association of Consumer Advocates and National Consumer Law Center conference. Janet’s inspiring remarks left nary a dry eye in the room. I feel so lucky to have been there for this special moment with this special human.

🌊✨ Together, we can protect our natural treasures for future generations! Public Justice is leading the fight to restore the Salmon Falls River, partnering with American Whitewater and Earthrise Law Center to challenge a harmful decision by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission. This decision permits the owner of the Somersworth Hydroelectric Project to walk away from the now-defunct Project without first removing the Project's river-fragmenting dams. Dams disrupt aquatic life and hinder outdoor activities. Thousands of these dams have begun to degrade inside of our rivers, harming aquatic, terrestrial and human life. We’re dedicated to fighting for environmental justice and ensuring public interest prevails over special interests. Join us in protecting our rivers by signing up for our Justice Brief monthly newsletter! 💪🌍
