While enthusiasm is great, reaching out too soon can backfire. Following up within 24 hours may give the impression of impatience, not interest. Give it at least a week unless they specified a response time, letting the hiring team make their decisions without feeling rushed. • 🚫 Following up through Social Media: Unless you've been directed to connect on social media, reaching out through DMs can feel invasive or even unprofessional. Keep your follow-up to official channels, like email or the company's application portal, to maintain appropriate boundaries and respect their preferred communication. • 👥 CC-ing other team members: Sending your follow-up to multiple people, especially if they're not your primary contact, can create confusion and come across as overstepping. Stick to communicating with the main point of contact, showing you respect the hiring team's process and know how to follow protocol. • 💸 Asking about salary too soon: While compensation is important, bringing it up in a follow-up can seem premature or overly focused on money. Avoid these questions until you're further along in the hiring process, ideally when the offer is close. This way, you demonstrate that your focus is on fit and opportunity, not just the paycheck. • 😅 Not being patient: Following up multiple times, or sending anxious messages like "Any updates?" can give the impression that you’re impatient and pushy. Send one well-timed, confident follow-up and allow them to work on their timeline. Demonstrate that you're calm, patient, and confident in the value you bring.
