POWER Spotlights are back, and today, we’re excited to feature Caitlin MacMurtrie, a relatively new and invaluable member of our team. Since joining our environmental division as a Senior Biologist last fall, Caitlin's extensive experience as an Environmental Scientist and Consultant has been a tremendous asset. Caitlin's work primarily focuses on the Greenlink Project in Nevada, an initiative that will transform the energy landscape with 722 miles of new transmission lines. This project aims to enhance electric reliability and support Nevada's 50% renewable energy goal by 2030. With over a decade of experience in environmental regulation for large-scale energy and utility projects in Nevada and the desert southwest, Caitlin was brought on board to manage environmental surveying, monitoring, and compliance for Greenlink. She is crucial in ensuring the project adheres to local and federal environmental regulations, managing the environmental impact, and keeping construction on schedule. At the project's peak, Caitlin expects to oversee over 100 environmental monitors, particularly within the Desert Tortoise habitat, leveraging her extensive network of biologists and subcontractors. Caitlin is passionate about witnessing a large-scale project being built from the ground up and appreciates the meticulous planning involved, from management procedures to engineering design and permitting. She has been impressed by the collaborative efforts between POWER and the client, especially in tackling complex design challenges. Caitlin joined POWER somewhat unexpectedly and was quickly impressed by our organized structure and vibrant company culture during the interview process. She sees great potential for business development in the desert southwest and is eager to help POWER achieve it. "During my job search, I was considering another company, but I was immediately drawn to POWER. The organization and company culture stood out, particularly the flexible work hours, various feedback options during reviews, and a strong emphasis on career growth and development." Caitlin works remotely, splitting her time between Las Vegas and Colorado. Outside of work, she enjoys rock climbing, mountain biking, and continuously learning new things. She takes Spanish and finance classes weekly and is self-teaching dirt bike mechanics and investment real estate.

As consulting engineers, we are always thrilled when our designs come to fruition. Capital Power’s dual-fuel Genesee Generating Station is no exception! In 2020, we completed detailed engineering and design in partnership with Mitsubishi Power to support the facility’s transition from coal-fired to natural gas-fired power. The project included the addition of gas-firing piping, burners, electrical, and controls necessary for the plant to go 100% gas-fired. Now, in 2024, the Genesee Generating Station will be 100% natural gas powered, producing 40% less emissions into the atmosphere for each megawatt of power delivered to their client. A huge congratulations to Capital Power on this accomplishment! Read more about the recent transition in their media release: https://lnkd.in/gaEFqbaS
