About us
If you have ever flown out of JFK, biked across the George Washington Bridge, or captured that perfect picture of the World Trade Center, then you have witnessed just some of what the Port Authority of NY & NJ does. For almost 100 years, the Port Authority has been designing, engineering, and operating the transportation infrastructure that moves people and goods to, from, and throughout one of the most economically competitive and culturally vibrant regions in the world. Whether we’re fortifying the tunnels under the Hudson River to withstand future super storms, or raising a bridge so larger cargo vessels can reach the premier port on the East Coast, our nearly 7,000 employees are committed to the work they do – work that moves millions of people and supports billions of dollars in economic activity each year. Our need for skilled, forward-thinking individuals, who are truly passionate about serving the public, continues to grow. And we’re not talking just about engineering, transportation, and urban planning professionals. We are always looking for professionals in Audit, Business Administration, Communications, Construction, Environmental Planning, Finance, IT, Media, Operations & Maintenance, Public Safety, and Security, to name just a few. We are also looking for those driven to diversify their skills. The Port Authority is investing $10 million to fund enhanced license plate readers at its three Staten Island crossings. With new permanent license plate readers being installed at Bayonne Bridge and Outerbridge Crossing, all six Port Authority crossings will have vehicle tracking technology. Already in place at Goethals and George Washington bridges, as well as at the Holland and Lincoln tunnels, license plate readers have provided crucial data to help locate stolen vehicles and vehicles otherwise linked to criminal activity, and to also support toll evasion enforcement. This move will strengthen collaboration with regional law enforcement to share data effectively. Meet Leo Tsang, a transportation planner bringing self-driving technology to the region's airports! His work piloting groundbreaking new tech could make a direct impact on moving millions of people. A demonstration at JFK International Airport next month will give air travelers their first chance at boarding a driverless platoon. “The idea is to enhance the existing public transit system and make it more accessible for everyone. I think autonomous vehicles allow so much more flexibility and open up our main transit systems to so many more people who might not be able to use it today.” -Leo Tsang, Principal Transportation Planner at The Port Authority of New York & New Jersey Head to our Now Arriving blog to learn more: https://ow.ly/AhCr50S436f #AAPIHM #AV #tech
