Happy Halloween! At Plastic Ocean Project, there's nothing scarier than pollution. Here are a few of our tips to have a more #sustainable holiday: 🎃Ditch the single-use plastic trick-or-treat buckets, and instead opt for a reusable bag that you can use for years to come! 🎃Say boo to landfills, and compost your pumpkin after Halloween to reduce greenhouse gas emissions! 🎃Rent or borrow costumes to keep clothing out of the trash! We hope everyone has a safe, spooky, and sustainable Halloween!

🏡 On the first Monday of every October, we celebrate #WorldHabitatDay, a day dedicated to examining the problems of rapid urbanization and its impact on the environment and human poverty. ❔ Did you know that the ocean contains 99% of living space on the planet and is home to more than half of all life on earth? It is the habitat for hundreds of thousands of unique species, all of which are at risk due to rising global temperatures and increased plastic pollution. 🔍 This World Habitat Day, Plastic Ocean Project encourages you to learn more about the impact that rapid urbanization has on the environment, especially our oceans, and how we can safeguard healthy habitats for all life on earth. https://lnkd.in/d-Nraft United Nations

📅 One year ago today, our team started a petition on behalf of the Māori people to grant whales legal personhood and designate them as ocean ambassadors. If we succeed, we can work toward providing whales with certain rights under the law. 🌎 As we head into #ClimateWeekNYC, POP aims to draw attention to the ongoing threats facing our oceans and urge you to sign the petition to encourage Peter Thomson to consider granting whales this legal protection. ✏ Link to sign the petition: https://lnkd.in/e37ZF55j Climate Group United Nations General Assembly Ralph Chami

Today is #WorldRiversDay!🌊 World Rivers Day is a celebration of the world’s waterways, marking the crucial role they play in sustaining life as we know it. Rivers are important for many reasons. One of the most important things they do is carry large quantities of water from the land to the ocean, playing a key role in the water cycle. Nearly all rivers flow into the ocean, meaning how we treat our rivers is how we treat our oceans. POP encourages you to learn more about your local rivers and how you can get involved to help protect them. 📍 In 1994, the United Nations General Assembly proclaimed September 16th the International Day for the Preservation of the Ozone Layer, commemorating the date of the signing, in 1987, of the Montreal Protocol on Substances that Deplete the Ozone Layer. 🌎 The ozone layer covers the entire planet and protects life on earth by absorbing harmful ultraviolet-B radiation from the sun. Without it, life on earth would not be possible! ❗ Chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) and other hazardous chemicals are released when plastic is burned, which can harm the ozone layer. Additionally, as we learn more about the impact of #microplastics, we are learning about the negative impact they can have on the ozone layer. 🧠 On #WorldOzoneDay, POP encourages you to learn more about the impact every day substances like plastic can have on the ozone layer. Learn more about the history of this holiday at the link below! https://lnkd.in/gU4Zjpn #WorldOzoneDay #Sustainability #Activism

💭 #DidYouKnow that the world creates 57 million tons of plastic pollution every year? That's enough to fill New York City's Central Park with plastic waste as high as the Empire State Building. ❓ So where does all this plastic go? The short answer - everywhere, from the peaks of Mount Everest to the depths of the Mariana Trench, in the form of #microplastics, #nanoplastics, and just plain garbage. 🔬 Plastic Ocean Project is dedicated to reducing pollution through #education and #awareness, which is why we encourage you to read more about the impact plastic pollution can have on our world and ourselves, and how you can get involved in the fight for a more sustainable future: https://lnkd.in/e8R5Ka_H.

Plastic Ocean Project is always so grateful to collaborate with organizations who are dedicated to #innovation and #education in the fight for a more sustainable future. Check out the link below to learn more about all the great work going on at A New Earth Project!
During a recent visit to the Plastic Ocean Project (POP) lab at University of North Carolina Wilmington, Atlantic Packaging president and New Earth Project founder Wes Carter, alongside Executive Director of the Plastic Ocean Project, Bonnie Monteleone, got a forensic view of the staggering plastic pollution crisis impacting our oceans, lakes, and rivers. The situation is beyond alarming. While awareness is growing, shutting off the tap to this waste stream will take decades of dedicated effort. At A New Earth Project, we recognize this as one of the most pressing environmental challenges of our time. Our mission is to tackle it at the source—by moving people away from problematic single-use packaging and towards sustainable alternatives. We also work to scale new material technologies that are earth-friendly and life-affirming. Our natural world deserves better, and so do we. Join us in this critical mission by helping your brand—and the brands you support—make smarter, more sustainable packaging choices. Plastic isn’t just a problem for Marine life. Good to see some positive change to reducing Plastic impacts with land animals.
Italy is taking note of the work of " Nayantara" the tigress in the Tadoba Tiger Reserve, which is a tourist attraction all over the world. Nayantara gave an environmental friendly message by taking out a plastic bottle laying in the water of a drain in Tadoba. She has been honored with the Golden Leaf Award by Italy for this eco-friendly work at the Italia Green Film Festival.
