Join us in celebrating a new chapter for Paul Brigner, PGP* (Pretty Good Policy) for Crypto, and Coinbase Institute!
I am thrilled to announce that I have joined Coinbase as the Head of Coinbase Institute! This new role is an incredible opportunity to build upon my work at Electric Coin Co. (ECC), particularly in the realm of cryptocurrency policy. I will continue to organize and host the PGP* (Pretty Good Policy) for Crypto meetings, podcasts, and special events, collaborating closely with the Blockchain Association, the VanEck Digital Assets Initiative - USC Marshall, and Electric Coin Co. However, at Coinbase, I will have the chance to expand the Institute’s scope, driving thought leadership through research and close collaboration with a diverse technology policy community, including industry partners, think tanks, academic institutions, trade associations, advocacy organizations, and more. My decision to join Coinbase was influenced by many factors, but most notably by the unwavering commitment of Coinbase’s leadership team—especially Brian Armstrong and Chief Policy Officer Faryar Shirzad —to the mission of increasing economic freedom worldwide. Other factors that influenced my decision include Coinbase’s groundbreaking work in blockchain technology. I have personally experienced this innovation in my role at ECC with our effort to integrate the Coinbase Onramp API that enables users of Zashi, ECC’s Zcash self-custody wallet, to fund their Zashi wallet with Zcash (ZEC) using debit and credit cards or their Coinbase balances. This is a very important feature for Zashi, and I am happy to report it will be released very soon on the Apple App Store! In one respect, I am not completely leaving the Electric Coin Co. team because I will be joining its board of directors at The Bootstrap Project, a 501(c)(3) non-profit dedicated to the uplift of humanity through technology, scientific discovery, education, and human organization. Being asked to join the Bootstrap board is a privilege that I will work hard to live up to, and I will remain an active part of the Zcash ecosystem, advocating for the blockchain technology principles that drive our community, especially privacy. I want to extend my heartfelt gratitude to my new boss at Coinbase, Faryar Shirzad, for the amazing opportunity to lead the Institute. I also want to sincerely thank my great friend and boss at Electric Coin Co., Josh Swihart, for allowing me to do work that I truly loved and that fulfilled me over the last few years. Additionally, I am very grateful to Zooko Wilcox, the founder and former CEO of Electric Coin Co., for his visionary leadership in creating Zcash and pioneering the cryptocurrency industry’s first widespread implementation of zero-knowledge proof technology. Faryar, Josh, and Zooko are an inspiration to me, and I feel lucky to work closely with these talented and dedicated individuals and others at both Coinbase and Electric Coin Co. #Cryptocurrency #Blockchain #EconomicFreedom #Innovation #Leadership #newjob

PGP* (Pretty Good Policy) for Crypto reposted this
Yesterday, I hosted the PGP* (Pretty Good Policy) for Crypto meeting in Washington, DC, amidst the House's historic vote on the #FIT21 legislation. Here’s a recap of the crucial discussions from leading voices in the crypto policy community: Ron Hammond: Live from near Congressman McHenry's office, Ron provided timely insights on the FIT21 and #CBDC bill votes, the evolving support among Democrats, and the CFTC vs. SEC stance. Despite Senate challenges, he remains optimistic about the bill’s future. Laura Sanders: Laura shared updates on a pivotal lawsuit by the Blockchain Association against the SEC's overreaching Dealer Rule, aimed at preserving market liquidity and preventing the exodus of the digital asset industry overseas. Jake Chervinsky: Jake, now with Variant, discussed the FIT21's bipartisan support, its implications for the crypto sector, and the need for regulatory harmony to foster innovation while advocating for the bill’s passage. Bill Hughes: Bill elaborated on Consensys' lawsuit against the #SEC, seeking to clarify Ethereum’s status as a commodity and protecting tools like MetaMask from undue broker-dealer regulations. Brian Nistler: From the Uniswap Foundation highlighted initiatives like 'The Latest in DeFi Research' or TLDR conference and the 'Atrium Academy V4 Hook Incubator,' promoting research and development in the DeFi space. Oliver Zerhusen: Oliver introduced cryptopols, a platform helping crypto voters track legislative developments and engage with representatives, featuring tools like an interactive sentiment map and the 2024 Election Center. Mike Orcutt: Mike presented Project Glitch, an initiative probing the future of the internet through crypto, focusing on advanced cryptography, privacy, and blockchain's intersection with AI, aiming to inspire deeper public conversations. See the full videos and detailed discussions from each segment in the article below. Thanks to our sponsors Blockchain Association, Coinbase Institute, Electric Coin Co., and VanEck Digital Assets Initiative - USC Marshall.
