The tour continues! Yesterday, ODHS Director Fariborz Pakseresht and other ODHS leaders spent time in Salem to hear from staff and community partners there.
Highlights from yesterday:
Staff meeting: We heard feedback from staff about things like workload, hiring and retention, and breaking down siloes to better serve people. Fariborz reaffirmed agency leadership’s commitment to improvement and encouraged everyone to continue sharing concerns and ideas.
Church @ The Park visit: Church at the Park is a non-profit organization providing essential services, like low-barrier shelters, support with basic needs, and employment opportunities. to individuals experiencing houselessness. We were able to tour C@P’s new family shelter!
Community partner event: A Q&A session at the Salem Kroc Center covered topics like youth houselessness, disaster case management, and language access. Emphasis was placed on collaboration with community organizations to address local needs and support for diverse communities. Representative Tracy Cramer even stopped by!
"Years ago, I sat in this very room and asked about self-care and community care and what we as an agency needed to make that happen. This isn't really a question, but more of an expression of gratitude. Over the last several years, I've seen changes made, and while there's still a lot of work to do, I feel heard. As I sit here reflecting, I believe that as people bring things forward and attention is given, changes are being made. We still have work to do, but thank you for the progress that has been made and for listening." - Amber McClelland, ODHS Program Manager for Polk County Child Welfare
