Recognized as one of the U.S.’s leading not-for-profit performing arts centers, the Ordway is home to a wide variety of performances that encompass the finest in Broadway musical theater, music, dance, and vocal artists in its Music Theater and Concert Hall. In 1980, Saint Paul resident Sally Ordway Irvine challenged her community to help create a performing arts venue in which her dream of offering “everything from opera to the Russian circus” could be realized. She set an example by making the first donation to a fund that eventually built the Ordway Center for the Performing Arts. Sally’s vision is alive today as the Ordway presents a robust schedule of theater, dance, music, family events, and educational programs.

Do you like to see art in the park, and dream of dancing in the street? We’ve got music, dance, balloons, arts, crafts, games, animals, and FUN all in the middle of downtown St. Paul. The Ordway is seeking volunteers for our annual presentation of the Flint Hills Family Festival. The festival will take place May 29th – June 1st, 2024. Made possible by a 20 plus-year partnership between the Ordway Center for the Performing Arts and Flint Hills Resources, the Flint Hills Family Festival is celebrated each year with a week of school performances and a weekend of free and low-cost performances and art activities for families. The Festival has successfully served over one million people in our community since its inception in 2001. Our annual summer festival brings thousands of children and families to Downtown St. Paul, as the Ordway, and surrounding areas, transform with music, dance, art activities, and public art installations. Come on out, we’ll give you a t-shirt and free food and drink, and best of all FREE PARKING. Volunteer sign-up is now open. In order to make the event a success we will need several volunteers throughout the week to help with a variety of tasks. Today we hosted the 31st Annual Saint Paul Public Schools Honors Concert at Ordway Center for the Performing Arts. It’s such a heartwarming experience where hundreds of student performers from Saint Paul had an opportunity to showcase their talent on the stage that has been graced by so many legends – from Ella Fitzgerald and Patti LuPone, to Yo-Yo Ma and Sounds of Blackness. It was beautiful to witness and connect with parents, family members, friends, and teachers who were all beaming with pride and showing support throughout the concert. Last week the Ordway Team was well represented at the Capitol for Arts Action Week, organized by Minnesota Citizens for the Arts. We joined hundreds of advocates from every corner of the State to thank our legislators for securing over $100 million for the arts in Minnesota, share stories of impact, and to continue advocating for Legacy and Funding through the Minnesota State Arts Board and Regional Arts Council system. Today we welcomed 1400 students from across the State at the Ordway Center for the Performing Arts to witness and experience Indigenous Hoop Dance with world-renowned dancers, Lumhe and Samsoche Sampson (Mvskoke Creek/Seneca)—a.k.a. the Sampson Brothers. We kicked off our season at Ordway Center for the Performing Arts with Ever After in Concert, where our audience got a peek behind the curtain of a captivating new musical in development that we were honored to be a part of. The concerts featured four Broadway singers, members of the Ever After creative team, a 14-piece orchestra, and three-time Grammy Award-winning Sounds of Blackness. The Arts Partnership (Minnesota Opera, Ordway, The Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra, and Schubert Club) co-presented Sphinx Virtuosi (comprised of 18 of the nation's top Black and Latinx classical soloists) with a pre-concert performance by the Walker West String Ensemble. I enjoyed working with Sphinx in Detroit, and it was nice to reconnect with them in Saint Paul.
