An Optics Letters [#OPG_OL] study from University of Central Florida demonstrates analytical expressions for the Wigner distribution function of partially coherent fields: https://bit.ly/4cYUIOh The authors also provide the modal decomposition of field correlations and evaluate the evolution of Shannon entropy associated with partially coherent fields. The results could be directly applicable in applications relying on vortices for optical communications and sensing through inhomogeneous media. Thank you, Fulbright Canada, for your support. As a Fulbright visiting scholar, I wrote my first book at Stanford University. Almost 10 years later, The MIT Press is publishing this toolkit for PhD students. Pro tip for students: Apply early in your career to prestigious programs so that later on, when a picture is needed, it is one of your super-young self that is utilized... #forever28

Fulbright Canada is thrilled to announce Caroline Boudoux's new book, It Goes Without Saying: Taking the Guesswork Out of Your PhD in Engineering, published by MIT Press last Tuesday, June 25th! The book, written by the Fulbright Scholar Caroline Boudoux, is a must-have guide for PhD students and their mentors, providing invaluable advice and insights that will make the PhD journey a smooth and successful one. It Goes Without Saying is a compendium of advice that is often taken for granted, but is absolutely essential for navigating the world of engineering academia. The book is a blend of serious subjects and engaging cartoons, making it an enjoyable and accessible read for all students. 🎓 It Goes Without Saying is inspired by Caroline's experience as a graduate student in Boston, a postdoctoral fellow in Paris, and a professor and entrepreneur in Montréal—resemblance to actual persons or events is, however, assuredly coincidental 😉 🔥 Reviewers from Boston to Adelaide and Scotland to Brazil turned this book into a global reference. Where answers are not universal, this guide suggests proper questions to maintain a healthy dialogue. 👀 Curious? See The MIT Press for a complete description and Amazon for an extensive preview, including Prof. Eric Mazur's thoughtful foreword. 🌐 Pre-orders are already accepted worldwide through Amazon and local bookstores for delivery around June 25th. 🇺🇸 Readers with a US mailing address may use the discount code PUBDAY30 on orders placed through Penguin Random House on June 25th. 🇨🇦 In addition to online marketplaces, COOPOLY accepts pre-orders and will ship copies starting on June 25th. https://lnkd.in/ev6YPVSH

A Université Laval team demonstrated a new design for the dynamic control of defocus, astigmatism and tilt aberrations with a foveal liquid crystal lens: https://bit.ly/3XUv6O4 The design enables a high level of independent control of aberrations by applying different voltages and phase delays to 4 control electrodes. The device could significantly enhance various optical systems with applications in imaging and vision. MetaOptics - TECHNOLOGY - STRATEGY - CHANGE // The great growling engine of change - TECHNOLOGY - MetaOptics

It’s been a week since the Optica Advanced Manufacturing Alliance meeting in Neuchatel Switzerland – time truly flies when you’re doing business development ;). The event was memorable, with top-notch speakers and a critical, constructive audience. We at PlanOpSim are proud to have actively contributed, with a presentation from our founder, Lieven Penninck. After two days of intense business and technology discussions, it's evident that the advanced manufacturing value chain holds immense potential, despite its complexity for end-users. While the ideal configuration for the Alliance remains uncertain, structuring and streamlining the value chain can significantly help companies within it integrate their offerings more effectively, creating added value for customers and expanding business opportunities. Innovative technologies like Meta Optics will benefit greatly from this integration. The value drivers for innovation are distributed across many companies in the value chain, not just one. A strong ecosystem is essential for driving these powerful advancements. At PlanOpSim, we’re committed to furthering this effort by partnering with more players and incorporating additional PDKs. Check out the first comment on our initial PDK announcement from some time ago! In your opinion, what’s the biggest game changer for any advanced manufacturing value chain? Thank you, Optica and Focuslight Switzerland, for making this possible. #AdvancedManufacturing #Photonics #Optics

Is this on your calendar yet? Join us at the Optica-APC Industry Summit, the premier annual event for leaders in cloud computing technologies, hosted by Synopsys. This two-day program will be hosted our Sunnyvale headquarters features panel presentations, in-person networking opportunities, and company visits and tours. Optica is partnering with APC to bring together companies throughout the supply chain to discuss innovations and the deployment of optics in data center applications and beyond. Attendees can expect insights from users and system integrators about technology trends and industry needs as we transition from face-pluggable transceivers to optics co-packaged with switch electronics. We look forward to connecting with you in person in October at Synopsys, 675 Almanor Avenue, Sunnyvale, CA 94085. https://lnkd.in/gt3YVC2X
