The league matched NBA viewership, but surpassed the NBA’s engagement. Notably, the W outperformed the NBA in Week 6 viewership due in part to the 2.1M viewers who watched the Sky host the Fever in June. 👀📈 • Over the course of the WNBA (Women's National Basketball Association)'s 2024 season, the league showed comparable viewership to the NBA’s 2023-2024 season through the first 11 weeks of action. Plus, WNBA fans engaged with team-owned content more frequently than their NBA counterparts. 🤳 • The W averages 272.24 engagements per 1K followers compared to the NBA’s 17.07, meaning it boasts both quality and quantity in its fandom — any brand’s dream duo. 🤩 • The WNBA’s in its transformation era after a record-breaking season, but what does all this growth mean specifically for league sponsorship? Data platform Relo Metrics released a report exploring how brands are thriving thanks to their women’s hoops investment. 💌 • The 2024 rookie class fueled big numbers. Indiana Fever games accounted for 45% of total broadcast value, and one of the biggest benefactors of the Caitlin Clark effect was Gainbridge. The Fever’s stadium naming rights partner outpaced all other financial institutions in sponsor media value (SMV) despite having less logo exposure than the next closest naming rights sponsor, Barclays. 👀 • What’s more, of the WNBA’s 13.6M mentions across all digital channels (up 571% YoY), 35% included one of seven marquee players in this season’s rookie class — Clark, the Chicago Sky’s Angel Reese and Kamilla Cardosa, Washington Mystic Aaliyah Edwards, LA Sparks Cameron Brink and Rickea Jackson, and Las Vegas Ace Kate Martin. The kids are alright. 😌

Sports is the best way to influence the male customer. And athletes love working with brands that authentically fit into their every day lives. So, super excited for the work we are doing with our new client Particle for Men. Big congrats to them for locking in a deal with an awesome Golf instructor - more to come soon... Excited to see our athletes and influencer alongside their existing social strategy. cc Jaime Boolkin Samantha Newman

A key part of entrepreneurial success is being in the right place at the right time with the right product. For Ishveen Jolly, everything is coming together as OpenSponsorship emerges a dynamic player in the influencer marketing industry. OpenSponsorship's value proposition is connecting athletes to brands, capitalizing on the explosive growth of sports globally. OpenSponsorship has a portfolio of 17,000 athletes, ranging from LeBron James and Tiger Woods to high-profile Olympians and Paralympians. For Jolly, it has been a 10-year journey that started after she left the sports agent business to create an "Airbnb-like" marketplace for sports sponsorship. Along the way, she has signed deals with major global brands and attracted a seven-figure investment from Serena Williams' venture fund. While influencer marketing has been around for years, it is fascinating how athletes leverage social media to connect with consumers. Jolly said one of the most interesting developments is that brands let OpenSponsorship handle strategic planning and tactical execution. Proud of our investors Oxonian Ventures for the amazing statistic that over 50% of their portfolio companies have a female founder (vs. an average of 20% by one European study). Glad we are part of that gold standard!

What on Earth is going on with Oxonian Ventures? This is Neil Wolff calmly reporting that they've achieved something astonishing: 50% female founder-led companies in their portfolio. NB to put this in context, 5.2% of Europe’s VC rounds involved startups founded by only women and companies with at least one female co-founder claimed 20.2% of deals, according to PitchBook’s European VC female founders dashboard. It's too early to report exits and fund performance for Oxonians, but the evidence says that they can expect out-sized returns with this profile. (e.g. a 2018 study, “Why Women-Owned Startups Are a Better Bet”, by Boston Consulting Group found that for every dollar of investment raised, startups with at least one female founder produced 78 cents in revenue, compared to 31 cents generated by all-male run startups.) What's the secret for the Oxonians? How did they achieve this 50%? We could think of three possible enablers: 1. They provide access and engagement to entrepreneurs such that a full representation of entrepreneurial female Oxford graduates chooses to pitch. 2. Their investment panel is magically free from subconscious bias against women. 3. Their investment criteria are beautifully aligned with value creation potential and free from mis-leading proxies such as preferred drink at the bar (or similar). First off, well done Oxonians. Secondly, friends and colleagues, please let's work out what has driven this success and let's replicate. ❗ New OpenSponsorship feature alert ❗ It's naturally more difficult to determine which of our athletes are trending in the moment because our biggest names (for ex. LeBron James, Russell Westbrook, Luis Suarez, Wayne Rooney) always rise to the top in news hits. We challenged our engineering team to solve this and highlight lesser-known names that are uniquely trending and they did it! Some insight into what we found this week: - Two Solheim Cup winners - Sarah Schmelzel for making her first one, and Stacey Lewis for captaining the team to victory! And another golfer Patton Kizzire ended a 6 year drought by winning the Procore Championship. - Football and Baseball news: Tampa Bay Rays pitcher Drew Rasmussen for stifling the Guardians in the opening game; Miami Dolphins back-up QB Skylar Thompson for will he or won't he start considering Tua Tagovailoa is out and the new signing of Tyler Huntley; University of Notre Dame tight end Kevin Bauman scoring his first college touchdown. - Coach news: Natalie Achonwa, a 4-time Olympian, joined the University of Michigan Wolverines basketball team as Assistant Coach. And Gorgui Dieng is being hired by the the Austin Spurs as Assistant GM. - The not-so-happy news: James Vick got knocked out for 2 minutes after his recent UFC fight and Tennis star Genie Bouchard leaving X after drama with Jessica Pegula! Want to be in the know about all trending athletes? Comment below to be added to our weekly email list ✏ Brands can use this new feature to identify athletes they want to work with - whether it's working with those who are trending or avoiding scandals.
