On Lok was delighted to host the AWARD Network for its first Summer Training Institute earlier this month. The Advancing Workforce Analysis and Research for Dementia (AWARD) Network is dedicated to advancing research on the healthcare workforce that supports individuals living with dementia. This collaborative initiative involves researchers from the UCSF Phillip R. Lee Institute for Health Policy Studies (IHPS), Healthforce Center at UCSF, UCSF School of Nursing, Center for Health Workforce Studies at University of Washington, and the Public Health Institute. Funded by the National Institute on Aging (NIA) and based at the Philip R. Lee Institute for Health Policy Studies, the week-long training program aimed to equip early-stage researchers—including doctoral candidates, post-doctoral scholars, and assistant professors—with essential knowledge and skills related to health workforce research and dementia care. #training #aging #dementia #alzheimers #research #healthcareworkers

About us
On Lok is a nonprofit organization that empowers older adults to age with dignity and independence. With over 50 years of experience, On Lok is a trusted resource in San Francisco, Santa Clara County, and the Tri-City area of Alameda County. Our mission: to relentlessly pursue quality of life and quality of care for older adults and their families. On Lok founded and still operates the Program of All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly (PACE), which allows eligible seniors to live at home for as long as possible by providing comprehensive medical care and social services. On Lok leverages its unique expertise as the pioneers of PACE through On Lok PACEpartners, a consulting service that supports organizations interested in exploring PACE, developing a PACE program, or improving their PACE outcomes. On Lok also operates On Lok 30th Street Senior Center, the largest multipurpose senior center in San Francisco, which provides a second home, health programs, activities, and case management services to active seniors. While the On Lok Mission Nutrition Program, provides more than 250,000 meals annually to seniors through its dining locations and meal delivery program. In 2021, Openhouse and On Lok joined forces to create Openhouse + On Lok Community Day Services, a safe and life-affirming space for LGTBQ+ seniors to maintain wellness and empower independence.

Happy anniversary National PACE® Association! Thank you for an incredible three decades, advocating for the PACE model of care and the right of our nation's seniors to age from home. #healthaging #pace #seniorservices #ageathome
In celebration of our 30th anniversary, NPA is comparing information about the association between today and three decades ago. In 1994 NPA had no full-time employees. On Lok supported the work of the association through a management contract. Today, NPA has 35 full-time employees and continues to grow! Juneteenth marks the end of slavery in the U.S., celebrating African American freedom and achievements. Our partner, Openhouse, and San Francisco AIDS Foundation, commemorated this historic day with a special event focusing on joy and freedom. This is the third Juneteenth celebration by Openhouse, offering a day of black joy, performances, and a meal for attendees. Isaiah Meade, Aging and Disability Specialist and one of the organizers for the event, emphasized the significance of this day: “In addition to joy we are also celebrating freedom. A lot of the elders here had to fight for their freedom both in the past and to this very day. The freedom to love, the freedom to live, and the freedom to be authentically Black makes this Juneteenth [event] so important and integral.” While Brian from the SF AIDS Foundation highlighted the long-standing relationship with Openhouse: “Most folks in our community are aging and getting older. We want to provide information and resources for the aging community. Juneteenth has been celebrated in many parts of the US for years, but only recently became a national holiday. The themes of liberation and freedom remind us to remember the past but also look to the future.” Event also featured soulful performances by Iman, a PoC Deaf performing artist and ASL interpreter, passionate about accessibility and community upliftment. Miss Bea Haven, a storyteller and performer from Haiti, using their art to educate and inspire in the face of systemic oppression. And, of course, host Beatrice Thomas, a self-proclaimed social justice drag queen who left the desk behind to mastermind Black Benatar's Black Magic Cabaret. Proud to honor this day together! #Juneteenth #community #freedom

Wonderful to support today's press conference with local government and health leaders in recognition of World Elder Abuse Awareness Day (WEAAD). We applaud efforts to help educate and arm seniors with information that can help them from being victims of fraudulent activities. #bayarea #community #seniorsafety #eldercare
