Join us in celebrating and thanking Jim Todd for 40 years at OMSI! Jim has brought incredible knowledge, dedication, and passion for his work at OMSI, and the museum is better for having had his contributions and presence. From planetarium shows to star parties to eclipse events, Jim has shared his passion for science and space with more than he will ever know. Thanks, Jim!

Happy #PrideMonth! 🏳️🌈 🙌 If you're looking for a family-friendly event in Portland this month consider OMSI's Pride at the Museum this Friday June 21st from 6-10pm. This is easily my favorite annual event at OMSI and I will be there again this year to demo my #SciComm work on The Power of Big Data: Statistics, Society, and Superheroes. Be sure to attend one of the Pride-themed laser light shows this year - the OMSI staff do an amazing job of creating these special one-off shows and they are always a hoot (dancing highly encouraged)! The event is $10 for adults and $8 for children (15% off for OMSI members) and tickets include ALL exhibits with free parking. The hardest working drag queen in Portland, the lovely and charming Poison Waters, is the official MC for the evening Let's nerd-out on data science, public health, and superhero lore! #OMSI #Prideatthemuseum #SciComm #socialdeterminantsofhealth #SDOH #Bigdata #datascience #statistics #superheroes #publichealth #ScienceCommunication #PortlandPride

🏳️🌈 Happy Pride Month from me and the Upswept squad! Pride Month is near and dear to our hearts. This past year has been hard to watch with so many states turning back the clock and pushing through anti-LGBTQIA2S+ legislature. Oregon isn't perfect, but we feel super grateful that it's shown itself to be a safer place than most. Join us in celebrating all the progress that has been made for LGBTQIA2S+ folks! Here are some Pride events happening June - July. We're still deciding which we want to attend individually and as a team. 🤔 💛 Kindness Farm Pride Party: On June 15th from 5pm-9pm, frolic in the idyllic pastoral setting of Kindness Farm, a community farm led by queer, immigrant, and refugee volunteers. Enjoy a tea tent with blends made with herbs grown on the farm, outdoor games, picnic table painting, flower printing, farm tours, dancing, and freebies (including kombucha, CBD soda, and snacks). You're also welcome to help participate in building a pride altar—bring candles and any offerings. ⚛️ Pride at the Museum: On Friday, June 21st at OMSI from 6-10pm come enjoy a light-synced show to the music of Lady Gaga, Queen, and Beyoncé. Poison Waters will make appearances at both drag queen story time in the kid-oriented Science Playground and as MC of the drag show later in the evening. Always Here Bookstore will have queer books, and Gay Crochet Co. will be selling handmade products. 🛼 Oaks Park Pride: On Sunday, June 30 from 12-8 pm Oaks Park is hosting a day of discounted rides, limited-edition treats, pride-themed carnival game prizes, special performances, free cake + balloons, and more. Stop by a vendor fair, and try out your skating moves during the popular Gay Skate over at the roller rink. 🌟 Pride Night Market: On Friday, July 12 from 6-9pm, Pride Northwest is partnering with Hotel Zags to host an evening celebration with wares from LGBTQIA2S+ vendors. Get groovy on the dance floor, and enjoy a variety of snacks and drinks. 🏳️⚧️ Portland Trans Pride March: On Saturday, July 20 at 2 pm in the NW Park Blocks march to honor the countless trans folks who have paved the way and the work that's yet to be done to achieve a world in which all are free to be who they are. #Pride2024 #PDXSmallBusiness #PortlandEvents #CommunitySupport #Inclusive

Congratulations to Daniel Guyton, OMSI's Traveling Exhibits Manager, for his selection for the 2024 MuseumLab for Museum Professionals (MLMP) cohort! An eight-month professional learning program, MLMP is designed to spark creative innovation that will make museums nimble in proactively adapting to our communities’ changing needs. Daniel's multi-layered and immersive exhibit designs, The Disk-O and Chaotic Reveal, aim to bridge the gap between early childhood exploration and more advanced educational experiences, ensuring that every visitor's journey through the museum is both enlightening and enchanting. Daniel's was one of five outstanding projects to receive the award. Congratulations, Daniel!

From the heart of the city to the heart of the state. Today was one of those days that makes me smile for miles. Started at the Portland Metro Chamber breakfast where a full panel of women leaders shared their team’s big audacious efforts to build major developments in the city center - from OMSI, Prosper Portland to Albina Vision Trust. Wrapped the day in Salem where we heard from state leaders on the importance of trade. Plus our newsroom’s recent Oregon Insight poll got a shoutout by John Horvick from DHM Research — at the Oregon Business & Industry annual meeting. There are a ton of great people doing their best to make the most of the moment here in Oregon. ❤️ Oregonian Media Group / The Oregonian / OregonLive.com
