Obesity: Biological, socio Cultural, and environmental risk Trajectories

About us

OBCT is a 5-year consortium project that started in November 2023, and is funded by the European Commission’s HORIZON EUROPE framework. Obesity in Europe disproportionately affects people and communities with a lower socioeconomic position (SEP). Effective approaches to prevent obesity require consideration of the complex and dynamic interplay between (SEP-specific) biological, sociocultural and environmental risk factors of obesity across the life course. OBCT provides health professionals, researchers, policy makers and the public with knowledge, maps and tools to support sustainable prevention of obesity, with a particular focus on low SEP communities. 🌍 Unlocking the future of obesity prevention: Introducing OBCT At #OBCT, we're on a mission to equip health professionals, researchers, policymakers, and the public with the tools and knowledge needed to tackle obesity, especially within low socioeconomic (SEP) communities. Over the next five years, we aim to revolutionise the understanding and prevention of obesity by focusing on the complex interplay between biological, sociocultural, and environmental factors across different life stages. Here’s how we’re making a difference: 1️⃣ Advancing the understanding of obesity risks and the role of SEP throughout life. 2️⃣ Identifying key obesity-related behaviors to target during critical life transitions. 3️⃣ Creating a comprehensive obesity risk screener for both public and professional use. 4️⃣ Delivering country-specific obesity trend estimates. 5️⃣ Developing a digital atlas highlighting obesogenic environments. 6️⃣ Characterising cardiometabolic risk profiles across gender, age, and SEP. 7️⃣ Crafting tailored lifestyle recommendations for diverse populations. 8️⃣ Evaluating the impact of obesity-related policies on inequality. 9️⃣ Building a decision support dashboard for informed policymaking. 🔟 Co-developing toolboxes for effective policy implementation in low-SEP communities. Through these initiatives, OBCT will empower the research community, policymakers, health professionals, and citizens to implement impactful, evidence-based strategies to reduce obesity risk. Together, we can create healthier futures, particularly for those in low-SEP communities across Europe. ➡️ Find out more: https://www.obct.nl/ #ObesityPrevention #PublicHealth #ResearchInnovation #HealthEquity #OBCT #HealthyCommunities #PolicyForChange
