Happy Friday and Challenge accepted! Have you ever made cold calls? Blind date? First date? Prank call? Selling? You never know how much cold-calling you’ve done in your life until you take the chance to sit back and think about it…. As a kid playing competitive sports, I would call my parents friends to sell them coupon books, Kroger bucks, Boy Scout popcorn, and a host of other things. Not sure if my parents prepped them but it sure felt like they didn’t when I had to pick up the phone and ask for someone to give them a pitch as to why they should support my extra curricular activities. My first job out of college was with a college ministry where I had to raise support aka my full salary. The amount of cold calls I had to make to sell people on me and my mission, no matter what they believed, to better the college campus, was my first lesson in cold calling. Calling and asking for money with no return to them other than maybe a tax break at the end of the year, is quite stressful! Next, I worked for a staffing agency, cold calling potential prospects for the companies I worked with. Believe me when I say, not everyone was excited about me calling! After that, working for a church where we would cold call potential volunteers to join our respective teams. Nothing like calling people during the week to follow-up on them wanting to join a team at church. Then walking into making cold calls for Limble as an SDR day in and day out making 120+ dials a day. I wish I would’ve had something like Nooks back then but that was smile, dial and make the board go wild! Now coaching others to be successful and have the same life changing opportunities I have. This is the cold calling that has changed the direction of my family for years to come. Would I do it all over again? ABSOLUTELY! Make the dials, be intentional with said dials, and take the good with the bad. Remember, the worst answer you will receive is no! So what’s your cold calling story? #DareToDialChallenge

🟣Challenge accepted! 🟣 (Nooks #daretodialchallenge ) A phone. A pen. A pad of paper. That’s it. That’s what was on my desk when I made my first cold call. (And all there was when I started my sales career.) Oh, and a physical book (!) that I used to build my call lists. 😅 And no, this isn’t going to be a ‘I walked uphill both ways barefoot in the snow’ kind of posts. (Gen X, not a boomer! 😉) Right out of college, I worked a 100% commission sales job. I made 25-100 cold calls every morning and had meetings in the afternoons. And I freakin’ LOVED it! It helps that I had a great manager and good training. (h/t Alan Butz if you’re checking LinkedIn these days!) I was hooked. I felt like a detective solving problems and trying to find the right fit. And I couldn’t believe I got paid…to TALK on the phone! (Well, without a call recorder, who knows? Hopefully, more listening than talking.) I still apply the lessons I learned back then to my roles today. For me, sales = connection. Full. Stop. It’s about the people. The strategy, the solutions, and all the wins along the way are just gravy. And though I would have loved to have all the shiny new tech (including Nooks!) when I started out, I wouldn’t trade my journey for the world! Because it’s led me right here. To this moment. I'm Mike Zappa and I'm excited to take over the Nooks page today! 👋 I'm an associate Account Executive here at Seismic handling full cycle inbound leads and generating pipeline for our larger segments. I was a part of the original Nooks pilot group here at Seismic and have been an avid user ever since. My favorite part about Nooks is their reporting capabilities. While I'm in sales now I still have an engineer brain so I love to look at data and figure out how to improve my outreach. Fun Facts: • Went to school to be an Aerospace Engineer. I had an 8 year career in Aerospace/Defense contracting where I got to work on Next Gen Supersonic air travel vehicles.    • I am an avid gym fan, lost 75 pounds teaching myself how to eat and lift like a bodybuilder and have been obsessed ever since.    • Appeared on a reality dating TV show last summer.
