The New Jersey Judiciary consists of the Supreme Court; the Superior Court, which includes the Appellate Division and the trial courts in the 15 vicinages; the Tax Court and the municipal courts. The Administrative Office of the Courts provides technical assistance, operational support, training, research and development, budget and personnel coordination, and development and operation of information systems for the courts.

    Eight Camden County high school and college students participated in a four-part virtual summer enrichment program hosted by Camden Vicinage Superior Court Judges Sherri Schweitzer and Kathleen M. Delaney. The events included a virtual mock trial where students served as jurors in a texting and driving trial, a case review and debrief, review of the Criminal Justice Process and Criminal Justice Reform and a recap session. Students were also able to take part in multiple Q&A sessions throughout the course.

    To mark the start of the new court year, the Cumberland/Gloucester/Salem Vicinage held its annual Opening Day of the Courts and Memorial Service yesterday at the Cumberland County Courthouse in Bridgeton. Assignment Judge Benjamin Telsey attended along with other vicinage judges. The ceremony also memorialized members of the Cumberland County Bar Association who died during the past year, including Mark Sprock, retired trial court administrator for the vicinage.

    The Mercer Vicinage celebrated the beginning of the new court year yesterday with its annual Opening of the Courts Ceremony and Memorial Service at the criminal courthouse in Trenton. Assignment Judge Robert Lougy presided over the ceremony.

    In recognition of Overdose Awareness Day last week, members of the Atlantic/Cape May Vicinage’s recovery court teams offered information on overdose awareness and prevention to recovery court participants. Atlantic County participants presented works of art illustrating what recovery means to them, while the Cape May County participants received books, mugs, and other items to support them throughout their recovery efforts.

    Atlantic/Cape May Vicinage Trial Court Administrator Jill Houck provided expungement overview training to local non-profit organizations and community partners. The program, held in partnership with Stockton University, explained the expungement process, and a court interpreter was present to provide translations to Spanish-speaking attendees.
