The culminating event of LA County Library’s One Book, One County program was a public, in-person conversation with the author of “L.A. Weather” María Amparo Escandón, partner library directors, and L.A. County Library Director in L.A.’s Gloria Molina Grand Park on Saturday, July 27. Libraries from all over L.A. County bussed participants to the park from their respective cities to participate in the event, where County partners and agencies shared resources for young readers and families. To tie in with the book’s theme of a local family struggling with the impact of drought and wildfires, #NHMLAC staff Chebon Marshall (Chief of Staff, Executive), Diana Sanchez (Program Manager, School and Teacher Programs), and Catherine Fox (Coordinator, Community Engagement) hosted an interactive booth that introduced the 185 participants to native plants that are fire-adapted and the different animals that depend on those plants for food and shelter. 📷 Catherine Fox

About us
The NHM has amassed one of the world’s most extensive and valuable collections of natural and cultural history — more than 35 million objects, some as old as 4.5 billion years. Its curatorial staff not only cares for those collections, but uses them for groundbreaking scientific and historic research. The Museum also curates new, immersive exhibitions that give visitors the opportunity to explore the “big picture” of our planet — specimens and objects, the stories behind them, and the increasing interrelatedness of the natural and cultural worlds. The Natural History Family of Museums is dedicated to seeking employees who have demonstrated experience and commitment working with a diverse community.

Since 1942, Edelweiss Chocolates in #BeverlyHills has been the confectioner of choice for both the blue-collar chocolate lover and icons of Hollywood’s Golden Age. Originally known as Grace Young’s Candy Round-Up, the chocolatier’s clientele list included celebrities like Frank Sinatra, Katherine Hepburn, Lauren Bacall, and Lucille Ball. In fact, the famous “Job Switching” episode of “I Love Lucy” was directly inspired by Lucille’s frequent visits to Edelweiss! Creative Director Danny Zahirpour finds innovative ways to inspire people to make Edelweiss not just a candy shop, but a community meeting place, infusing his family’s own cultural heritage and identity into their chocolates by using rosewater—an important part of Iranian cuisine and Iranian culture. Hear more from Danny and what Edelweiss Chocolates means to L.A.’s chocolate-loving community in our latest #ChocoLAte series feature: https://bit.ly/EdlwsChclt
