NYBC is one of the largest community-based, non-profit blood collection and distribution organizations in the U.S.
About us
Founded in 1964, New York Blood Center (NYBC) is a nonprofit organization that is one of the largest independent, community-based blood centers in the world. NYBC, along with its partner organizations Community Blood Center of Kansas City, Missouri (CBC), Innovative Blood Resources (IBR), Blood Bank of Delmarva (BBD), and Rhode Island Blood Center (RIBC), collect approximately 4,000 units of blood products each day and serve local communities of more than 45 million people in the Tri-State area (NY, NJ, CT), Mid Atlantic area (PA, DE, MD), the Kansas City metropolitan area, Minnesota, Nebraska, Rhode Island, and Southern New England. NYBC and its partners also provide a wide array of transfusion-related medical services, including Comprehensive Cell Solutions, the National Center for Blood Group Genomics, the National Cord Blood Program, and the Lindsley F. Kimball Research Institute, which — among other milestones — developed the Hepatitis B vaccine and a patented solvent detergent plasma process innovating blood-purification technology worldwide.

✨ Last week we honored our incredible Long Island O- blood donors at another unforgettable event! ✨ The evening was filled with inspiring stories and impressive milestones. The event's attendees have made more than 3,700 donations, and 25 donors were honored for achieving 50+ lifetime donations! Jaime Singh, our featured speaker, moved everyone by sharing their unique story as both an O- donor and an O- recipient—a testament to the power of giving back. We’re also grateful to Great South Bay Brewery for supporting NYBC’s Pint for a Pint and hosting blood drives. Together, we’re making a lifesaving impact! 💪❤️ #DonateBlood #OTypeHeroes #CommunityEvent #DonorRecognition

After doctors found a tumor in her stomach at five years old, Heather McNamara faced her battle with cancer with unparalleled courage and became an inspiring advocate for blood donations. Though she is no longer with us, her story continues to inspire us to fight for every child battling cancer. Even as #ChildhoodCancerAwarenessMonth draws to a close, we'll forever honor Heather's memory by continuing the mission she held so dear.

I am thankful for your lifesaving work and sincerely hope that your efforts inspire others to become agents of change in their communities." - New York Senator Kirsten Gillibrand Yesterday, New York Blood Center celebrated the exceptional contributions of organizations that support blood donation initiatives in the Hudson Valley. At the HV Chairpersons' & Volunteers' Recognition Luncheon, the "You Mean the World to Us" awards were presented to three donor organizations for their outstanding commitment and achievements in hosting successful blood drives: Christopher & Dineen Bellesheim, Carmel High School Agnes Manganelli & Mary Ellen Modico, St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish Michael & Diane Conklin, Blauvelt Fire Company One of our featured speakers was Jonathan DeCasanova, who shared his inspiring story of overcoming cancer and receiving numerous blood transfusions as a young man. Today, Jon works as an Account Manager at NYBCe. Additionally, NYBCe's Director of Community and Stakeholder Relations, Yadira Navarro, read an official letter from The Office of Senator Kirsten E. #OnThisDay last year, Yadira Navarro, Director of Community & Stakeholder Relations, represented NYBC in support of an initiative proposed by NYC Councilmembers that would require the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (“DOHMH”) to develop a professional education program regarding #SickleCellDisease as well as establish a sickle cell disease genetic screening program. We're so proud to say that this Bill was passed by the council and became law in December 2023. #SickleCellAwarenessMonth

Last week, 11-year-old King Singh, a true blood disease warrior and friend of NYBC, issued a heartfelt call to action: Give blood now! King and his family returned to Cohen Children's Medical Center, where he once received lifesaving transfusions, to encourage the community to make blood donation part of their back-to-school routines. Thank you to our partners and King’s family for their inspiring message, and to the Singh family for their generous donation of toys to the Cohen Emergency Children’s Department. As King said, “It’s my way of giving back for receiving this gift of life." #BloodDonation #DonationAdvocate #BloodWarrior #ChildhoodCancerAwarenessMonth #BloodCancerSurvivor #CommunityOutreach #QueensNY
