NACCHO, with support from the CDC Division of Healthcare Quality Promotion, established the Building Up Infection Prevention & Control in Local Departments in Healthcare-Associated Infections and Antimicrobial Resistance (BUILD HAIAR) Project in 2023 to strengthen local health department (LHD) capacity for healthcare-associated infections (HAIs) and antimicrobial resistance (AR) prevention and response using the CDC (Interim) Local Health Department Strategy for HAI/AR. One of our BUILD HAIAR sites, Stark County Health Department, developed a success story overview describing how they were able to engage more with their long-term care facilities (LTCFs) to conduct tele-ICARs and in-person ICARs, provide educational opportunities, and build rapport. #PressRelease: Today, NACCHO called for an increase in sexually transmitted infection (STI) testing and treatment to further the nation’s goals of reducing these preventable infections. This is in response to new data released today by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), through its annual surveillance report (2023 STI Surveillance Report), which showed encouraging signs of a slowing STI epidemic after years of alarming increases. ➡️Read the 2023 STI Surveillance Report here: https://ow.ly/zcOX50U5qr9 ➡️Read the press release here: https://bit.ly/3CywXzo

#FundingOpportunity Wastewater surveillance: ✅Serves as an inclusive, non-invasive, and inexpensive early warning system for local health departments to detect #COVID19, #flu, Respiratory Syncytial Virus, etc., given that more than 80% of households in the U.S. are connected to a municipal wastewater collection system ✅Helps local health departments make informed decisions based on WWS data trends and appropriately direct resources such as testing and vaccinations to limit the spread of a disease We're now offering funding to help local health departments make progress with implementing WWS through peer-to-peer #mentorship - https://lnkd.in/e2GTYEPQ #Apply

One of our BUILD HAIAR sites, the County of San Diego (COSD), developed a one-pager overview of their efforts to implement C. auris screenings in ventilator-capable skilled nursing facilities (vSNFs) after a persistent gap in such surveillance resulted in several outbreaks in the county. The one-pager shares more detail about how COSD implemented screening, the outcome of their work, and lessons learned. Learn more: https://lnkd.in/gkMPiH2Y
