  • 🌀 Apply for Disaster Exemption to Reduce Your 2024 Taxes by October 17th If your property was damaged by Hurricane Beryl in July, there’s an urgent opportunity to reduce your 2024 taxes through a temporary disaster exemption. With the deadline approaching on October 17th, it’s critical to act now. 🧐 What is the Disaster Exemption? Texas Governor Greg Abbott declared numerous counties a disaster area following Hurricane Beryl on July 8, 2024. Section 11.35 of the Texas Property Tax Code provides a temporary exemption from ad valorem taxation for properties in these governor-declared disaster areas. ✅️The exemption offers a percentage reduction in the improvement value of your property, ranging from 15% to 100%, depending on the level of damage assessed. There are four levels of exemption: 15% for minor damage 30% for significant damage 60% for major damage 100% for total loss How to Apply: To benefit from this exemption, you must apply within 105 days from the date the disaster is declared, which means the deadline is October 17, 2024. Here’s how to apply: 🔷️Download the Form: Visit the https://lnkd.in/g8nhMmJE to download the necessary paperwork. 🔷️Gather Supporting Documents: Include photos, inspection reports, estimates, or invoices that demonstrate the level of damage to your property. 🔷️Mail the Application: Send the completed form and supporting documents to the address listed in the top left corner of the form. Why You Must Act Now Time is running out! Applying for this exemption can significantly lower your property taxes, offering much-needed financial relief during these challenging times. Don’t let this opportunity pass you by. • Boil Water Notice: Important Information for Houston Residents Hey Houston, We want to alert everyone about the current boil water notice affecting many of our communities in the wake of Beryl. There are around 160 active boil water notices in effect across 8 counties, most of them in municipal utility districts (MUDs) north of I-10. It’s crucial to follow these guidelines to ensure your safety and health. Please check your local MUD District for more details. Boil Water Advisory Guidelines Specifics of a boil water advisory might be given by different communities, but here are the standard recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC): 1. Use Bottled or Boiled Water: - Use bottled or boiled water for drinking, preparing and cooking food, brushing teeth, and making ice. This includes water for pets. 2. Boiling Water: - If bottled water is not available, bring water to a full rolling boil for 1 minute, then allow it to cool before use. - Boil tap water even if it is filtered. 3. Avoid Using Connected Appliances: - Do not use water from any appliance connected to your water line, such as ice and water from a refrigerator. 4. Infant Feeding: - Breastfeeding is the best infant feeding option. If you formula feed your child, provide ready-to-use formula, if available. These steps are essential to prevent illness and ensure the safety of you and your loved ones. Stay Informed Please stay updated with information from local authorities regarding the duration of the boil water notice and any additional instructions specific to your area. We are all in this together, and by following these guidelines, we can keep our community safe. If you have any questions or need further assistance, don’t hesitate to reach out. • Heat Advisory Alert: Stay Safe and Cool, Houston! 🌞 Power is still out for much of the city, and we're facing a heat advisory with temperatures in the mid-90s and a heat index up to 106. It's crucial to stay safe and cool during this time. Here are three essential tips to help you beat the heat: 1. Find Air-Conditioned Locations: Look for places with power and air conditioning, like open Whataburger locations. Download the Whataburger app to find stores that are open and take a break from the heat. 2. Stay Hydrated: Drink plenty of water throughout the day. Avoid alcohol and caffeinated drinks, as they can dehydrate you. Carry a water bottle with you and refill it whenever you can. 3. Limit Outdoor Activities: Try to stay indoors during peak heat hours. If you need to be outside, wear lightweight, light-colored clothing, and take frequent breaks in the shade or cool areas. We’re all in this together, and at NAAIA Houston, we’re here to support you. Stay safe, stay cool, and don’t hesitate to reach out if you need any assistance. Houston Family, What to do if you have Home Damage? Here are three quick tips for filing your insurance claims: 1 . Document and Mitigate Damage: Take detailed photos and videos of all damage to your property. Try to mitigate further damage if it’s safe to do so. This will help support your claim and prevent additional losses. 2. Get a Professional Assessment: Arrange for a professional to assess the damage. Remember, insurance adjusters are there to evaluate the damage, not fix it. Having a detailed report from a professional can expedite your claim process. 3. Understand Your Deductible: Familiarize yourself with your wind and hail deductible. The standard is often around 2%, meaning some of us homeowners have a deductible of over $9000 before claims are paid. Knowing this can help you plan your next steps.
