Mpox is just one challenge among many in eastern DR Congo. Controlling the mpox outbreak will be impossible unless living conditions are improved.

In Ukraine, heavy missile attacks near the front lines are overwhelming the remaining hospitals. Ambulance teams have been working to transport patients away from the hostilities to hospitals with more capacity and facilities that offer treatment catered to specific injuries. "As more and more health facilities are destroyed, damaged or closed, and attacks like this continue, the pressure on the remaining hospitals is only going to grow, leaving more and more people without any access to the health care they need." It’s been 500 days of war in Sudan, and one in five people in the country have been forced to flee their homes, according to the UN. That is over 10 million people, and many have been displaced multiple times. A catastrophic malnutrition crisis is taking place in North Darfur’s Zamzam camp, and MSF’s inpatient therapeutic feeding centers in other parts of Darfur are full of patients. We must continue to #TalkAboutSudan. The needs are urgent, yet for the past 16 months, international humanitarian organizations and donors have failed to provide an adequate response to the country’s escalating medical needs. https://lnkd.in/gqNWNTTT

A polio vaccination campaign is underway in Gaza - our teams are providing logistical and organizational support. Gaza had been polio-free for the last 25 years until poliovirus was detected in July in environmental samples from Khan Younis and Deir al-Balah. The resurgence of #polio in Gaza is a consequence of people being forced to live in unsanitary conditions and the destruction of civilian infrastructure by Israeli forces during the war.

MSF psychologist Nancy Mutai shares how different therapy techniques are used to help people heal from trauma: In Kenya, we identified a serious need for mental health services in camps for displaced people in Baringo county. A needs assessment conducted by our teams in April showed significant gaps in early detection and management of sexual and gender-based violence cases, as well as trauma resulting from other violent attacks. “[In] some of the cases we are seeing [people] have either mild or severe depression. Others have post-traumatic stress disorder. Others are [experiencing] trauma issues.” In children especially, parents are seeing the positive change play therapy has had on their emotional wellbeing. https://lnkd.in/eEan74uZ #mentalhealth #healthcare

When Ismail had to leave his home country, Eritrea, he faced a dangerous journey to reach safety, crossing multiple countries and the Mediterranean Sea. Today, he works with MSF, using the eight languages he speaks to help recently-arrived migrants, asylum seekers, and refugees like him access the health care they desperately need.
Staff story: Rescued at sea and now helping other refugees and migrants

We’re deeply alarmed by the high rates of violence against women in and around displacement camps in eastern DRC. According to a survey conducted in April by our epidemiological and medical research arm Epicentre, more than one in 10 young women reported being raped in displacement camps in and around Goma—proving the overall frequency of physical, psychological, and sexual violence is still very high in this area. Rebecca, a young woman sheltering at a displacement camp in Goma, gives a glimpse into the hardships influencing her daily life: “Life has become complicated.”
