At mRelief, we believe food is a human right.
mRelief is a tech nonprofit that provides an easy-to-use platform through web, text messaging and voice that helps people sign up for SNAP (food stamps). Our mission is to transform access to social services for the inherent dignity of all people.
mRelief has connected more than 1 million households to SNAP, unlocking an estimated $1 billion in benefits for eligible households. We are leading industry efforts to make technology and accessibility improvements to the SNAP application process. We believe technology is a powerful tool to increase access and constantly test new features to better serve SNAP recipients. Two randomized controlled trials have tested the impact of our innovations. In LA county, we increased the rate of call completion by 18% by providing an option to schedule a call. In Kentucky, users directed to mRelief’s mobile-friendly website instead of the state’s desktop application were 30% more likely to apply.
mRelief has built Johnnie, an end-to-end customer relationship management (CRM) tool designed to enable community-based organizations to connect to clients seeking SNAP application assistance. Johnnie, named after the visionary welfare activist Johnnie Tillmon, enables client management and communication from anywhere. that includes texting or calling a client based on their preferred communication method, while helping clients view and submit documents to verify their application.
We have a vision that one day, anybody can access the social safety net without adding to the already stressful circumstance of poverty.
