From coast to coast, our attorneys and staff are integral members of their local communities. We recently wrapped up our annual backpack drive for six Boston-area organizations working with victims of domestic violence and/or poverty and homelessness, including Asian Task Force Against Domestic Violence , Casa Myrna, HarborCOV, Project HOPE, RESPOND, Inc., and Transition House, Inc. (Cambridge, MA). Across all our US offices we provided 332 children with back-to-school backpacks stuffed with school supplies and more. This is the 22nd year of this project, and we look forward to many more years to come.

Member Cheryl Reicin participated in a Q&A with Pharmaceutical Executive focused how mergers and acquisitions are trending in the pharma industry. Cheryl discusses the policy shifts and regulatory changes that can be expected in the next year. She says, “The current administration and the Harris team are looking to introduce price controls for certain drugs. If implemented, this is likely to have a chilling effect on the development and investment in new therapeutics. The high cost of drugs is intended to compensate for the high cost of bringing an innovative drug to market, which includes the high costs of the many failures of drugs that do not reach the market. If the price of a drug is controlled, the upside to pharma is limited, and therefore the investment thesis for the development of new drugs can shift dramatically.” Read the full article here: https://bit.ly/3Tj98RU

Happy First Day of Classes Northeastern University School of Law! Join us in congratulating Matthew Nadeau, a NU 3L student and former summer associate who will be joining our 2025 first-year associate class in our IP Litigation practice group. “What made my summer at Mintz so enjoyable was the people. I worked directly with attorneys at all levels – from junior associates to partners – on substantive assignments for real clients, and everyone was genuinely interested in me and my development as a future attorney. I am excited to return to the firm to establish my own practice and learn more from the outstanding attorneys on the IP litigation team… Looking forward to finishing up my final year at Northeastern University School of Law and the chapters ahead.” #MeantforMintz

Environmental Law Chair Jeff Porter was quoted by Bloomberg Law in an article about litigation involving the Vineyard Wind project—the first commercially operational offshore wind project in the United States. The article raises that similar litigation could lead to death for certain projects due to the delays lawsuits are causing. Jeff says, “Delay is a victory. Over the four years or so that these challenges have been going on, material costs went up, interest rates went up, and the economic viability of some of these projects decreased.” Read the full article here: https://bit.ly/47dkJHO

Health Law Practice Chair Karen S. Lovitch and Of Counsel Samantha Kingsbury were quoted in a G2 Intelligence special report about the 2024 lab enforcement landscape. Samantha says, “This year we have seen numerous criminal and civil actions involving individuals and entities associated with labs accused of performing and billing for genetic testing that was medically unnecessary and/or ordered by a provider who never treated or met the patient in whose name the testing was ordered. These cases often include kickback allegations as well.” Karen commented on the Anti-Kickback Statute saying, “With respect to potential arrangements with third parties, a lab should research those third parties to the greatest extent possible to try and confirm that the company is reputable. With respect to arrangements with referral sources, in particular, a lab should conduct its own compliance review to ensure that the arrangement can be executed in a way that does not create legal or compliance risk.” Read the full report here: https://bit.ly/3ZaCq8Z
