Brain injuries are serious and can last a lifetime. This video discusses how our military members are exposed to dangerous conditions causing brain injuries that are not recognized or treated by the military. We need a major change in how we look at brain injuries and how we take care of our veterans. #braininjury #veterans #veteransupport https://nyti.ms/3ziiF4o

Chief Operating Officer at Milanfar Law Firm, PC

I am honored to share that I was appointed to the Board of Directors at A Better Way, Inc. earlier this month. A Better Way, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that works in collaboration with Alameda, Contra Costa, San Francisco, Santa Cruz and Solano Counties to help children and parents thrive through their many services, including mental health, parent advocacy, and foster care. As a former foster youth, the work they do is deeply and personally meaningful to me, and I look forward to contributing to the Board's collective, positive, and powerful impact within our community. Thank you to David Channer and the ABW's leadership team, as well my fellow Board colleagues, for trusting me in this role. A special shout out and thank you to fellow board member, Jen Kokko, for recommending me to the Board.

A big thank you to our team of attorneys and support staff for their hard work and support during these past three years, as we navigated pre-litigation, litigation, and, finally, a trial that resulted in an incredible verdict.

$32,000,000 Elder Abuse / Negligence Verdict Last week, our jury in Sonoma County handed down a verdict of over $32,000,000 in favor of our client and against Arbol Residences of Santa Rosa, a residential care facility, its licensees, and operator. $22,000,000 of that verdict was for punitive damages imposed against Life Care Services, LLC which was the operator of the facility during the pertinent time frame. Punitive damages are imposed to punish and deter from repeating their reprehensible conduct. This verdict is vindication that the elderly, who are in a protected class, deserve to be seen, heard, and treated like human beings. Our firm spent over 3 years investigating and litigating this case. We spent 4 weeks in trial. The jury rendered its verdict swiftly because of the overwhelming evidence. The jury found negligence (by a preponderance of evidence) and elder abuse and punitive damages (by clear and convincing evidence). Defendants asked the jury for a defense verdict. It was an honor to be the voice of our elderly client who was profoundly deaf, had dementia, and was a high fall risk. Thanks to everyone who supported our efforts and encouraged us to stand up for someone who did not have a voice. Special thanks to everyone in our firm who worked hard to help us prepare this case for trial (Summer Rogers Mathur and Chris Rodriguez). I represented our client along with our firm’s attorneys Donavon Sawyer (trial preparation and during trial) and Molly Ryan (trial preparation and present during motions in limine). Also, thanks to our COO, Patricia Ochoa-Milanfar, for making sure our firm and home continued to function while I was in trial.
