  • Last June, MYCP participated in the Expert Group Meeting on the Asia Pacific Migration Report 2024, organised by United Nations ESCAP at the United Nations Conference Center in Bangkok. ▶ Salsabila Rashid (MYCP Project Officer) represented the organisation in Session 4: Summary discussion– synergies, overlap, and recommendations. In her intervention, she emphasised the critical need for detailed migration data collection and the importance of focusing on gender, age, region, and vulnerable groups to develop effective policies that guarantee all young migrants access to legal identity and documentation, regardless of their migration status. She also underscored the importance of using an intersectional lens in crafting migration policies, recognizing that the impact of the climate crisis is gendered and affects migrant communities differently. Among other priorities raised include the need for digital services for climate-displaced persons to facilitate access to essential information and streamline processes, the promotion of ethical recruitment practices, and the creation of structured pathways from educational institutions to the labor market, including dismantling barriers faced by international students. Finally, recognizing the diversity of the APAC region, she stressed the importance of removing barriers that hinder the aspirations of young migrants. ▶ Aidan Luchs (MYCP Asia-Pacific Regional Lead) contributed to the stakeholder discussions held at the end of each session, as well as through written comment. He emphasised the importance of intergovernmental agencies, civil society organisations, and government centering intergenerational equity and the creation of sustainable policy with a  long-term focus during discussions on migration policy reform, given the rapidly changing migration landscape and the acceleration of the climate crisis. He also highlighted the importance of centring intersectionality in all its forms to create inclusive and impactful change in the migration landscape, noting the importance of considering the unique needs of Indigenous, disability, and LGBTQIA+ communities and on the further collection of, not only gender-disaggregated data, but also data disaggregated by minority status amongst other factors. The importance of amplifying Pacific youth perspectives in these discussions, given that the Pacific is often overlooked, despite being at the forefront of climate-induced migration, was also raised during the intervention. Finally, he addressed the importance of recognition for the significant contributions of international students to host countries, advocating for the recognition of their skills and economic impact, as well as creating clear pathways to long-term residency and integration. A full copy of their intervention will be published soon on our website: https://lnkd.in/esmDiqn8

  • “When it comes to intersectionality for migration and disability, there is still a big gap to tackle. There is a need to amplify the mobility of people with disabilities beyond borders amidst our unwelcoming system that is exclusionary, leaving out migrants and refugees with disabilities“ 👉 Read more about peer-to-peer support in transforming disability inclusion in migration and beyond published by our 4th Migration Youth Forum Youth Delegate Mulenzi Tonny in the latest MYCP blog post 🙌🏼 https://lnkd.in/eHEW8SMY
