Together, we're building a healthier Arizona. Congratulations to Art Of Our Soul and Arizona Department of Corrections on launching this exceptional program. Mercy Care is proud to support this, first of its kind, program supporting the mental health of inmates, through a two year, $375,000 community reinvestment grant. #ReimagineCorrections #MercyCares4AZ
Founder/CEO "Art Of Our Soul" Art Healing Program For Trauma Survivors - 5x Emmy Winner (CBS News) - Healing Artist - Motivational Speaker
One of the most powerful art and music healing sessions I’ve ever experienced. The first historic session with these men currently incarcerated at Lewis Prison is now a core memory for everyone involved. The moment they walked into the studio from the prison yard, they were shocked. They were like - “what is this place? This is on a prison yard? This is wild!” They were able to experience Art Of Our Soul’s innovative program where people can truly feel the healing powers of music and art. As the paint dripped from the canvas onto their hands - a connection was being made. One of the men had tears streaming from his eyes. While I will always keep those conversation confidential, he did share this was the first time since he went to prison in 1998 that he felt a release of energy. He felt all of these stored and bottled up emotions he’s never expressed. Arizona Department of Corrections, Rehabilitation, & Reentry is currently reimagining corrections to be transformative for the men and women currently in prison. If we want safer communities, lower recidivism, end generational trauma, etc we must provide proven therapeutic programming for this population. Many have experienced childhood trauma that led them down a destructive path. We are proud to partner with ADCRR (Corrections) to help heal our community. We are grateful for the investment by Mercy Care (Mercy C.A.R.E.S) in this program that will soon help upwards of 250 men diagnosed with serious mental illness who are incarcerated at Lewis Prison. To see them stare at the artwork they just created was powerful. Art Heals. Partnerships Matter.
