October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Raising awareness and supporting the fight has always been near and dear to our hearts, but this year the disease has hit especially close to home. We’ve seen wives, mothers, aunts, and friends get diagnosed, even our team members themselves. It’s been a wake-up call. This disease is far from abating—on the contrary, it’s impacting more people at a younger age than ever before. On average, every 2 minutes a woman is diagnosed in the U.S. 9% of all new U.S. cases are diagnosed in women younger than 45. 1 in 8 U.S. women will be diagnosed in her lifetime. In 2024, ~310,720 women and 2,800 men will be diagnosed with invasive breast cancer. Unfortunately, it’s become so common that it’s easy to get desensitized to how truly life-altering it can be. From the fear, anger, sadness, and loneliness that come with a diagnosis, to the physical and psychological pain that comes with treatment—it impacts every aspect of family, work, and life itself. That’s why awareness is important, but action is imperative. What can you do to take action for your colleagues, friends, and family members facing this challenge? GET INVOLVED! 👟 Participate in walks: They raise money for recurrence prevention. 💰 Donate: Research in women's health is still grossly underfunded! 📣 Raise awareness: Keep the conversation going. Attention brings us closer to a cure. 🩺 Stay vigilant: Get your yearly mammograms and encourage loved ones to do the same. This month we donated to two organizations/events close to our team’s heart: The Cancer Wellness Center and the More Than a Pink Walk Event. But the need for awareness and action doesn’t end when November begins. Throughout this and every year we’ll continue to take steps to support this cause. We encourage you to do the same.
