In composite mould tool production, large format additive manufacturing has shown impressive potential by driving cost efficiency and reducing lead times. However, its adoption for #aerospace grade composite tools has been limited due to challenges with thermal expansion in autoclave environments. To address this, we developed a solution in Aibuild software as part of our ZETTAS (Zero Expansion Thermoplastic Tooling at Scale) project, in collaboration with National Composites Centre and with support from Aerospace Technology Institute, NATEP - National Aerospace Technology Exploitation Programme . This advanced software feature allows aerospace-grade composite tools to be manufactured using LFAM with layers conformal to the surface across all regions, enabling a single expansion factor to be applied - eliminating one of the key blockers for aerospace applications. As a result, Aibuild software maintains the high part performance required while achieving up to 80% reduction in CAM and toolpath preparation time. This cuts production costs and accelerates time-to-market, thanks to a fully streamlined production process that significantly enhances both time and resource efficiency. Adjust the deposition width during the print can simplify the deposition process while improving the quality of the results. We're excited to showcase a new application of #AdaOne's variable bead width feature, demonstrated on the MDAC10 cell in collaboration with Massive Dimension. This video highlights the "single wall" slicing mode, which allows for variable bead widths directly from a solid 3D model. The tool path automatically adapts to the model’s geometry, enabling intricate bead patterns with ease. 🚨🔔 3D-Printed Chair Alert 🔔 🚨 This is the final piece for my paper on parametric speed control for non-planar printing pellet printing! By leveraging robotic printers in combination with non-planar slicing, we can evolve past the traditional 3D-printed look of planar surface striations. We can also improve surface finish, structural quality and print efficiency for more complex geometries. Happy Friday and Happy Printing! 🖨️ 🎆 We've now moved on to our multi-planar testing phase - this piece has successfully demonstrated the potential of parametric speed control for local layer height consideration! I'm currently drafting my abstract and wanted to share this relevant snippet: "By parametrically calculating print speed to consider local layer height, we can emulate the precise material output demonstrated on desktop printers on the large scale – in turn allowing a flat extrusion rate to avoid pressure-based implications complicit with pellet-based extrusion."
