  • Shout Out Sunday this week goes to Keep Montgomery County Beautiful and the grants they provide to our communities! Invasive species of plants are no stranger to the Miami Valley. A volunteer with Trotwood Church of the Brethren, Cox Arboretum, and Five Rivers Metro Parks, Rex Miller knows first-hand how frustrating this problem can be. His solution? To remove and replace the invasive plants with native ones. When looking at his project area, which is at the church along the north bank of Wolf Creek in Trotwood, “60% [of existing species] are invasive and we are trying to prevent more of the invasive species from taking over by planting native species.” Thanks to a grant from Keep Montgomery County Beautiful, Rex is able to implement his solution right in his Trotwood community. “It is not difficult to apply (for the grant program). I would encourage other organizations to look at doing this to help improve the community,” Rex said. Learn more about what we do at www.kmcbohio.org
