Thank you Drew Simmons for including my memories of the Salt Like tornado. Our trade show booth was completely destroyed, samples lost and we thought our trade show experience would be a disaster. It was a scary day! We were lucky that no one from the LOWA Boots LLC team suffered more than some bumps, bruises & scrapes! In the end everything worked out because the outdoor industry came together, rallied and made the impossible possible! Outdoor Retailer, OIA & brands came together with some great leadership, decision making and an event that went a long way towards healing from a traumatic experience.
As we look back on the 25 years since, we have also survived recessions, war, terror, politics, a pandemic and all the day to day obstacles. Each are a learning experience and point to the need for resilience in both the business & personally.
Sometimes you make decisions on the fly. and that day was one of those days! Thank you to Sally McCoy who ran Sierra Designs at the time for hosting us in a corner of their booth!

Cheers to the amazing Suzanne 'Sunny' Stroeer! Sunny is the first woman to complete the Iditarod Trail Invitational on skis. This race started in Anchorage, and she skied 950 miles with over 17,067 feet of elevation gain in 29 days, 23 hours, and 6 minutes finishing Tuesday, March 26th in Nome.
Stroeer’s footwear of choice was the LOWA Renegade Evo Ice GTX designed to keep feet warm, comfortable, dry and protected in the hardest weather conditions. Temperatures ranged from -45 to 35 degrees. warehouse team swept the office team in our annual March Madness Cornhole tournament! There were some great matches, comebacks to make it fun and challenging and trophies for the winners. We had a successful weekend with the US Biathlon team at Soldier Hollow for the IBU World Cup‼️ We witnessed an incredible display of athleticism all around, and are so proud of Team USA’s accomplishments. The men’s team came in 4th in 4 x 7.5 km relay (best finish ever on home soil) and 6th place for Campbell Wright in the 10km sprint, his personal best.

February is American Heart Health Month – a time to focus on cardiovascular health. However, this is not a Heart Health Month traditional post. Instead, we are spotlighting our ambassador Carlos Buhler and a cause he is passionate about – The Heart of Ukraine.
To many, Carlos is best known as world class alpinist who represents LOWA at ice climbing festivals each year. A less visible side but equally impressive side of Carlos is his philanthropy. In 2022, Carlos was serving on a humanitarian mission on the Ukrainian border where a chance meeting with Dr. Igor Polivenok, an interventional cardiologist, pulled him into the world of war-time medical care. Here, he observed how the war was shutting down supply chains and curtailing funds, including critical medical equipment for heart patients. Thus was born the Heart of Ukraine, with the purpose of providing much-needed medical equipment to interventional cardiology teams in Ukraine.
Through generous donations from manufacturers such as BIOTRONIK and hospitals such as Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston and Boston Children's Hospital, Carlos and his team have procured thousands of supplies such as stents for interventional cardiology units across Ukraine, worth many hundreds of thousands of dollars. While we don’t have an official head count of how many lives have been saved, if you consider that one heart stent can save a life, it’s likely that we’re looking at thousands.
We are proud to highlight Carlos’ amazing effort and to support his mission with shipping and logistical assistance Stateside.

LOWA Athlete Suzanne 'Sunny' Stroeer kicked off the start of her 1000 mile journey across the rugged wilderness of Alaska on skis. To finish the Iditarod Trail Invitation 1000 over the course of a month will be an incredible feat. Nothing is guaranteed, but we know that Sunny will approach this journey with grit and sound decision making. We also know that Sunny will make the most of this experience with humour and humility. Sunny's husband Paul is also participating, opting for the 350 mile distance on a fat bike.
Wishing Sunny, Paul and the rest of the athletes a safe, fun journey!

A big congrats to the US Biathlon team, wrapping up a successful World Championship in the Czech Republic. The U.S. men's relay team raced to fifth place, the best U.S. relay finish since 2016!
The IBU World Cup will be coming to the U.S. March 8 - March 10, at Solider Hollow Nordic Center in Midway, UT. We are excited to be there in person and to be cheering loudly from the LOWA booth!
