Take a look at "WHY we all need to localize our diet, invest in small and beginning farms, and prioritize desert adapted foods and regenerative ag practices"🌱
I find that of all the complex work we do at Local First Arizona, the area that causes the most confusion is our food and agriculture work. Let me share some numbers that may help explain WHY we all need to localize our diet, invest in small and beginning farms, and prioritize desert adapted foods and regenerative ag practices. Our food supply has been corporatized and that makes ALL of us vulnerable to supply chain issues, food borne diseases, and food insecurity. From a national security angle, we are truly insane if we look the other way and allow ourselves to fall victim to these kinds of monopolistic mergers which will only make food less affordable. Speak out against the Kroger/Albertsons merger. If it’s approved, Kroger and Walmart will control 37% of ALL grocery sales in the US. That is terrifying. It can be scary to leap from a moving object. That’s why I jumped from a solid platform instead. I fell and tumbled a few times, but the “win” has always been in “getting up!” Celebrating 3 Incredible Years as a graduate of Local First Arizona “We Rise Black Business Accelerator”(Cohort 1). As an inquisitive, talkative, brown girl from Sarasota, Florida - I knew very little about starting my own business, until Local First. Through their program and mentorship, I have: •Legally Structured and Registered my business •Published my 1st book •Increased my company profitability •Negotiated favorable contracts •Published my own website •Boosted productivity by 25% And, I’m just getting started. #Resilience #WeRise

In the latest Arizona Good Business episode, Thomas Barr explores Arizona’s craft beer scene with Cale Aylsworth with OHSO Brewery + Distillery, Andrew Bauman from the Arizona Craft Brewers Guild, and Brad Miles from Arizona Wilderness Brewing Co. Despite being 43rd nationally in breweries per capita, Arizona’s craft beer industry is booming. Six new breweries just opened in the last 3 months, and Arizona now represents 100+ local breweries. This episode highlights the challenges breweries face, and how the brewery community comes together and relies on each other for the industry’s success. The guests predict a mix of predictions for the industry's future and discuss the opportunity to learn from national trends. Curious to learn more?
